Caspian's fingers slipped into her hair, stroking her head softly as he always did. "I..." he didn't know how to tell her. "I won't come back right away." he said, hoping that she might understand. "But I'll be back. And when I am, we'll dance and sing beneath our tree." Caspian bent his head to kiss her lips, one salty tear trickling from his eyes. Then he looked to little Galen. Poor, frightened little Galen. He kissed his son's head softly, and then careful as always, kissed Susan's belly. The King looked back towards his wife's beautiful eyes, waiting for her to understand his little clues of what was going to happen. "Aslan is our savior. He will not abandon or forsake us." he told her, hoping that what he said might help a little.

"Don't do this." she muttered. almost nothing he could say unless it was nothing but them staying together to save Lucy could make her feel any better. seperating could nott help them, it would destory them. Even in England dividing and conquring was common knowledge of warfare. Now he was willingly submitting "Nothing good can come from you leaving me."

"No, sweetheart." he whispered. She still didn't understand. He took her hand. Telling her was worse than what he was going to do after she was safe in the castle. How could he tell her? His heart nearly froze in his chest. "Susan..." he began, the way he did whenever he had bad news. "You have to understand... I won't be coming back for a while..." He looked down at her. "I'm going a way for a little... trip. I'll be back though. On the full moon, beneath our place. You must wait for me there, do you understand?" he asked her. Oh, how he hoped that she made sense of it. "You can't come into the forest after me after this battle. You can't see. You can't know..." He squeezed her hand tightly, as if it might explain to her exactly where he was going. It wasn't anywhere in Narnia, or Telmar or Calorman, it was the place where only the old lives were allowed to go. But he would be back. She would see.

"No . . . " something in her mind told her what she thought and she couldn't accept it. Was he going into the forest to die? No. he couldn't. "You can't leave me." She told him as her arms tightned around their children. "You can't leave us. I won't let you. I stay with you. That was the promise you made me make but that means you cannot leave me too. Don't go."

"Till death do we part." he told her. This was awful. "But listen to me. Aslan will take care of you. Please, my darling. You'll be safe. I'm doing this for you, and I will be back. Don't come back into the trees tonight. Please, Susan, trust me." Caspian looked down at her sadly. But she would live. And so would all of their children. He knew it. Aslan had told him so. "My little Cuddle-bug." he whispered, another tear falling. Memories came. The night that she had earned that name. The many days of joy and peace before the war. Everything came back to him. He would miss her. "Don't forget." he told her. "Don't forget to remember me." He stroked her neck softly, and then smiled, hoping to encourage one from her as well. He didn't want to die, not seeing her smile again. "I will be back." he promised. "Wait for me, on the full moon. Rest by the tree, and you'll find me there, waiting." He stole a kiss from her, playfully. "I love you more." he whispered, his voice as hushed as the breeze and it danced through the air. "And you can have those words back when we meet again."

"No," She said again. With the hand that didn't hold Galen she took hold of his clothes tightly and would not let go. "I won't let you die. I won't. We've been over this too many times. Without you there is no life for me. I lived without you once in England and I will not do it again after all I have done to make you mine." Tears streamed down her face as she dragged him close to burry his face in his chest. She usually did this when she wanted him to hold her and chase the memories of some horrible nightmare away, but now she just wanted him. "I died because of Katrina, remember." She didn't want to bring it up, but she would use everything she could to make him stay. "You remember what you felt then. You would willingly give that to me and your children? Galen needs a father, Your son needs a father. You would give them the same fatherless life of torment Miraz gave you when you were five? Don't leave."

"This is just precious," Lamont said not bothering to wait for them to seperate. As he drew his sword and stepped towards his cousin he knew they would part. Without leaving her now she would be engulfed in their battle. Someone, or in some cases something, could be hurt. "But being that you've taken so long I'm cutting in. draw your blade and fight, cousin, or die where you stand."

Caspian's tears fell as she spoke and clutched his clothing. She wasn't making this any easier. "I will be back, though." he promised her. He wasn't going to leave his sons or his wife. Not the way that his own father had left Caspian. Caspian didn't even have a mother to look after him at that time. He was a completely alone. He wouldn't do the same to his family. "When I come back, you'll be safe." he promised, and kissed her. "Please, my beloved, do not cry over me. Do not take your life, either. Be strong, Susan, and be wise. We'll see each other again, in time. And far sooner than you think." The full moon. She only had to make it until the full moon. "Good bye is not forever." he told her, and took a breath. "So good bye, Cuddle-bug Suzie." he said, his last smile playing over his face. He wanted to hear his name that she had given him. Just once more before he died. With any luck, she would say it. He set her down gently so that she could stand, and made sure that she had a good hold of Galen. "Go to the Castle." he told her. "Aslan will help you get there, if you ask it of him. He will help you with everything, if you but have faith." His lips graced over her lips one last time, and he bit her neck a little before he turned her around to send her home. "I love you more." he said with a wink, and then turned to face his cousin. He drew his sword, and waited. "Lamont." he said, stepping towards him. "Let's see what you've learned in England!" That was Caspian's name for Susan's world. England.

Lamont could have laughed forever as he cried for his Susan. When he kissed her he reached down and picked up a rock, bounced it in his palm twice, and threw it at his head. He didn't miss, he never did, he just wasn't sure how hard he hit. "You're more of a fool than I thought." He laughed again, "Are you sure you would leave her now? At least if you did you could die together." He didn't wait for an answer, he attacked. At first he ran to Caspian but arced his path to one side. Just barely out of the Prince's reach he dove into the space between him and Susan. Has path changed, looking like he was going after her. Every sence was sharper than he had ever let them be and reached for her dress. When his hands closed around the fabric by her collar he pulled hard smiling at the sound of the weeak fabric tearing.

"Caspian, I still can't-" But he inturpted. Her arms tightned around Galen. She couldn't let him be taken. She waited for the battle to come and go, she couldn't fight. But when he came for her she tried to run to late. Part of her dress he ripped open and the memory of the Dark Isle resurfaced once more and she let herself scream.

Caspian reacted fast, ignoring the stone that thwapped against his head. His hand reached for the back of Lamont's collar as he went after Susan, and he yanked hard, bringing his cousin to the ground. Caspian knew that Lamont wouldn't stay there for long, so he hurried Susan along. "Remember Aslan." He told her quickly, and patted her shoulder before she went. "Everything is going to be fine." Then he turned back to his cousin. "Me, you miserable bastard! Not her! Pick up your sword." Then Caspian walked over slowly to Lamont's face. "You didn't learn anything in England." he laughed slightly. "You just allowed yourself to grow old for the strength and stamina. Poor, poor little Monte. Always stupid. Just like your father! And your mother, dear my, she was even duller than a brick! Well, I guess I can't really blame you then. It wasn't truly your fault, was it? Your background is just against you." Caspian chuckled.

Rage boiled in him. Fire formed on his limbs. He didn't say anything, just attacked. Susan would run now, she would go to the castle. Or at least towards it. But Caspian wouldn't interfear. He couldn't lose. He couldn't back down. He had to wait, just a little longer.

She didn't run, just left. She knew she couldn't run, her child was too big. she closed her eyes as Caspian yelled at Lamont and tried to tune out the sound of swords clashing. She wanted to make herself useful, but knew she couldn't. Lamont had chased her off more than any amount of begging Caspian could have given. If he was going to die she needed to be away from him so he couldn't hurt her again. The hand that didn't hold Galen stayed close to her throat trying to keep the rip from being too obvious. She kept going, the castle couldn't be far, could it.

"On your feet!" Caspian sneered as he brandished his sword at Lamont. "Or are you? I could never quite tell, with you." even as an older person, Lamont was still shorter than Caspian. "Little dwarf cousin." he chuckled cruelly, "You couldn't even reach my sword!" Caspian held his sword high above his head, as if Lamont might try and grab it. This was a purposeful mistake. He left his belly open, unprotected. But he wasn't ready to die just yet. He brought his sword down, missing Lamont by less than an inch and protected himself again. Caspian flicked his wrist, so that his sword touched the ground and splattered Lamont with soil. "Filthy rat, just like your mother. I was so ashamed to call her 'Aunt'. Good thing you killed her, Lamont. You spared me quite the humiliation, you know? Oh, but how my uncle loved her. He must be so disappointed in you now that you've killed his wife, isn't he? It's a shame." Caspian laughed, dark and evil. It wasn't his laugh. Just part of his act.

Just make him scream He thought and ran at him. There was no reason for him to raise his sword unless he wanted him to strike. He ignored all his words, listening to the woods around him rather than his cousin. "Enough talk and fight me. Just because you know youe not strong enough to win dosn't mean you can talk your way out of this."
