"What is he that I am not?" he asked her. "Please, Katrina, just tell me. I can do anything, be anything, do long as that anything is wanted by you. Is it his accent? I can learn it. The way he dresses? I can dress like it. His hair? I can fix that. But surely, it cannot be the way his mistreats you so!" Kioh's voice trailed, "... I could never do that." He looked up at her, desperate, like a man that had lived his whole life without water kneeling in front of the Rain goddess. He might as well have been, for a goddess she was in his eyes. "Katrina, how long as he loved you, and then tossed you aside?" he spoke with his hands, casting one hand to the side of him. "I have loved you passionately for more than a hundred years, and will continue loving you even after death claims me. I love you more than he ever could. More than he could ever hope of loving another."

"It's not that . . ." She said sadly wishing still that she had notlet him ask. She hated when he spoke to her like this, his words perfect, as if planned. She wished she could give him a straight answer, but the turth was that she didn't understand it herself. "I can't much tell you why I love him, as horrible as it sounds. It's just, well, one of those things that cant be helped. It's like Aslan knew every creature that will come and matched them with theil soul mates long before the rest of us were even born. And when that time comes and those two people meet there is no debate, no argument, they just know and this thing goes of inside them that says this is it, this is how things were meant to be."

Kioh sighed with sorrow. "The feeling is all too familiar to me..." he said quietly, almost to himself, though it was to her. The feeling was wonderful, falling in love. But when the other didn't love you back... it was worse than any heartache mortally possible of comprehending. He looked up at her, "But Katrina, he's married. He almost killed you that day, tied you to a stake to have you burned." he said, though the argument was weak. At least to Katrina, it would be. It was something she already knew. Kioh frowned again, thinking a final time. "Well, then. If you cannot tell me how I can change to be like him so that you love me, can you tell me how I can change so that you might like me better? I mean, is there anything that you don't like about me? Is there anything that I can change about myself so that you might love me more? I could change my hair, if it pleases you. Or the way I dress." he looked down at his clothes. He liked the way he looked. It was masculine, but humble. Like a gentleman. But if she didn't like it, he would change in a heartbeat. "Or my voice? I could change my accent if you wanted. I know many of them." he offered. "Or, is there something wrong with the way I treat you?" he asked, though frowned at the thought. He already treated her as best he could. With respect, love, gentleness, kindness, hope, faithfulness, and loyalty. He made it known that he would do anything for her, as he made her the wand. He'd save her from any danger, as he had already done the burning day. And he was more than willing to lay down his life for her, should the situation arise. But still, maybe there was something that he could improve on. Do better. Anything. He was willing to try. The elf looked up at her, hope and longing in his eyes, as well as the love that never left.

She answered sadly simply because the asnwerwas sad. "I don't know." It was true enough that she could have said it in the elven language. She didn't know anything about boys, what she liked and didn't, she just knew Caspian was the one she wanted and nothing could stray her from that path. she could say it was his hair or his accent or the way he smiled, but if there was someone who existed that looked and sounded the same as him could she love it? She didn't think she would, nor did she want to believe she would.

"Please, Katrina. Surely there must be something that I can do? Something that's wrong with me that you want to change... Just say it and it shall be done." he pleaded. His ears finally caught the sorrow in her voice, and his eyes met with hers. A thought crossed his mind. -No, a memory. When she had cried that day, just those few teardrops (over Caspian, of course), and he had held her hand. It had taken all of his courage to do so, but she had felt better afterwards. And so he looked at her now, with that same nervousness on his face as his hand extended for hers, that same racing heartbeat and the gentle touch of his fingers to hers, then finally, the light weight of her palm in his. His thumb stroked the top of her hand gently, and his voice abandoned him. After a moment or two, it came back. "Dear Katrina," he said, "If it's my voice that you want to end, just say so, and I'll keep quiet." he spoke, though his words held a sincere vow. "Say anything, -anything at all -and I can make it come true." he looked up, into the eyes that stole his heart away. "There's nothing I wouldn't do for you."

"No," Said sadly refusing to let herself meet his eyes. She wasn't sure what she could say or what to do. She didn't want him to touch her, to hold her hand like she did. She didn't want it, but it almost made her feel better. No, Caspian was supposed to be the one to stop her suffering ans sorrow, even if he was the one who caused it. he was supposed to be the one who noticed when she ran away to be alone and would hold her. It should be him, not this other boy. She was supposed to belong to him.

Kioh gave her hand a comforting squeeze, his heart still beating wildly. He didn't like the sad sound of her voice. She should be happy, and he would make her happy. Somehow. If it couldn't be done, maybe he could just be a friend for her. She didn't have many, or any at all, to Kioh's knowledge. No one to confide in. No one to comfort her. So the elf gave her a little smile, trying to bring joy back into her eyes. He pulled her hand closer to his body, letting go of it as her sweet frame drew nearer, and embraced her in a warm hug. He was trying, it was clear to anyone. Just trying. Trying for anything. A stronger friendship, a relationship, even just a little smile. But he was trying.

Katrina shook as he took her in his arms. She didn't want him to hold her, yet couldn't push him away. In her mind she saw herself destroying him, knocking him aside with a spell and maybe paralyzing him when he hit the ground. But she couldn't raise her arm, couldn't make her voice say the spell, couldn't do anything but cry in his arms.

Kioh didn't see what was, but only what appeared to be. He didn't see an angry Katy. He only saw a sad, sobbing woman whom he loved. And it broke his heart. He rubbed her back softly, trying to comfort her. "Why are you crying?" he asked her sweetly. A sinking feeling in his stomach told him that he had done something. Maybe it was his nervousness, making him self-conscious. Maybe not. He wiped her tears away from her eyes with a gentle touch. They made him somber, those tears. Made him want to cry. When she was sad, so was Kioh. When she smiled, he was the happiest man on earth. He would do anything to see that smile again. Another tear fell from her eye, and he sent it away with a soft caress of her cheek. But that stubborn little tear wanted to fall. So not from Katrina's eyes did it plummet, but from Kioh's.

"Don't touch me." She managed to force out of her, but still she couldn't understand. At her hand her fingers curled becoming eagle-like talons, but she did not thrust them at him with the intent of driving her nails through his gut. Her hands did not jump into her robes and draw her wand and the death spell did not come to her. But why? She wanted to kill him and wanted to run, that much she was sure of, but she never did. Didn't even move.

Kioh let go immediately. Another tear dropped from his eye, her beautiful reflection shimmering in its waters before it landed on the ground, shattering upon the soil like glass. It was almost ironic, the way he could almost see his heart breaking with that teardrop. But he wouldn't let any more fall. He wasn't going to do that in front of her. But he was left nearly speechless, and what did come from his mouth was unfinished. "I'm sorry...I was just trying to comfort... I didn't know... Didn't realize... I thought...." Shut up. he begged himself, but he couldn't. "Sweetheart, you know I love you. Know I'd never..." he took a few remorseful steps backwards, giving her the space that she wanted. He noticed her hand and looked away. "I'm sorry." his voice was quiet. New tears came that he held back. No way was he going to be a wuss. He tried to swallow his sadness, but it was too big a sorrow to swallow. It caught in his throat, tearing him apart inside. Now it was he that needed the comfort, and would receive none. In his mind, he didn't deserve any. What had he done? Kioh stopped breathing. He couldn't breathe. He was suffering.

NO Her mind screamed it. She wasn't helping. This little attempt to help him before he died was only making him worse. This disease of desire was killing him in a more painful way then she ever could. She had to end him and end him fast. She could use her wand, the killing spell easily taking over him, but her hand would not move. There were twelve elven spells that could kill him, a single word ending him, but she might not have the strength to summon the magic without killing herself. It only brought her death's sweet embrace. What was to lose? She would do it. All it took was one word, one word she couldn;t seem to say. Her body trembled, her vision blurred with tears, she could feel herself wanting to colapse, her head burned as though someone had set fire to it. She could have sworn she almost fell over, her balance failing her, but why? Then the world burst into fllame around her, a flame that only she could see fueled by rage. the elf trained to feel no emotions had been knowing only love for Caspian for so long. If ever she had felt anything before those days were long gone along with her memory of them. But her instinct could always make something of rouge emotions: a very human reaction that may be what makes even Lamont act as he dose. Every emotion and tought she cound not understand instantly became rage. All of this pain and confusion was not caused because of Caspian. Yes, he hurt her, yes he denied her love when she only asked for it, but aside from breaking her wand he had never tried to hurt her. But this man, he was diffrent. Despite her cries for Caspian he continued to persue her, putting these unreconizeable thoughts in her head. He should not die to prevent his pain, he should die because it was him who put her through so much pain. and with that epiphany she raised her wand and with no hesitation shouted with it's point aimed at his chest, close to his heart but not close enough to actualy cause it damage. "SECTUMSEMPRA!"

The spell rippled around him, not even touching his skin. He looked down, watching as the red light flowed from her wand, but then it split before it hit his body, like a river hitting a rock. It fell away from him. Elves put up barriers to protect themselves, such as she had just hit. He looked up at her, his face nothing but sorrow. The shock had brought back his breath, and all he could do was stare now. He didn't know her spells, but it was clear that it probably could have killed him. "Oh Katy." he whispered her name, tears welling in his eyes that he could barely hold back. "If you wanted me dead, all you had to do was ask. I told you, I'd do anything for you. I'd die for you. All you had to do was burn a petal, and set it free. That would be the end of me." He rhymed. But now, he had business to attend to.
"I will die, don't you worry about that. But I have something for you first, Beloved." Kioh knew that she didn't want to be touched, but it was all he could do to make sure that she would follow. She had to see this. So gently, he took her hand again and pulled the wand from her fingers. He would never take it from her. Not permanently. In fact, he held it with respect in his other hand, so that she might not reach it. He didn't want her destroying anything, or hurting herself.
The elf wiped away her tears softly before continuing. He led her to his house again, opening the door for her. Polite as always. Once inside, he pulled up one of the floor boards, revealing a deep hole with a ladder going down. A secret basement. "It's alright." he told her. "It's clean and safe." And with that, he carefully picked her up and set her on his shoulder, before proceeding to climb down. Apologies would come later, because he was deeply sorry. He didn't want to disobey so many of her wishes, not wanting to be touched and carried and all. But she had to see this. It was the last chance he would ever have to show her.
With one word, the torches all along the walls lit up. He set her down gently, his gaze meeting hers for only a moment. Kioh couldn't bare much more than that. Before them was a large room, filled with treasures and trinkets. "If Aslan ever blessed me enough to grant me your love, this would have been your wedding present." he explained. All of this. He took her to one side of the room. Things from all over the world lay neatly and orderly before their eyes, clearly cleaned every day. "I used to be a soldier for the Queen." he explained, referring to the Elven Queen, not Susan. "Under her rein, we were paid generously, and given very exotic places to venture to." He pointed to a rolled up carpet in the corner. "That's a magic carpet." he told her. "It will carry you any where you need to go." Walking a little further, pointing out treasures and such and explaining to her how he had found them and what they did. They were all magical and rare. All for her. Then he stopped before a wardrobe, and opened it. There lie a beautiful blouse, made of chainmail and lined with cotten and silk for comfort. "Wear this, and nothing will ever harm you again." he promised her. "No spell, demon, or monster will ever touch you." He closed the cabinet and continued.
Kioh took her to the other side of the room, where seven golden chests lay, shimmering in the firelight. He opened each of them, revealing that all were filled with gold and jewels. "Every time the Queen paid us, I set it aside for you." he told her. "You will never have to work again. You will never go hungry, and you can have all your heart's desires that can be bought." He led her to an eighth chest, near the ladder that they had come down. He opened it, and within it lie everything he had ever sung for her. Roses and diamonds and other things shined up at them. He closed the chest.
Taking her to the far wall, he pointed up. A picture of her hung on the wall, larger than life, from the bottom of her ribcage up. Her lips were so lush and red, a crimson rose would seem white. The silver tips of her hair seemed to shame the moonbeams. Her dark hair shamed the starless night. Her fair skin made snow look black, and her eyes... oh, her eyes! They seemed to hold all of the stars and planets within their depths, the sun shining through them like gold. It was an elven work of art, created only my the mind of the creator. No paint was used. Only magic. "This is how I see you." he said, sighing at the picture. "But you shame even this picture. You are my life, Katrina. And I've spent all my life with your sweet name on my lips, your face on my mind. I love you." He took a ladder that lay beside the picture and leaned it against the wall, climbing. He took it down, and what only appeared to be bricks lay behind it. But then Kioh pulled one of them from the wall. A secret chamber. And from it, he drew out two rings. Placing the brick back along with the picture, he climbed down. His eyes met hers again, and this time he held her gaze. Kioh knelt before her, and took her left hand. "These were to be your wedding rings." he told her. "I sung them myself from the stones of this earth, and from the love in my heart." Both were made of diamonds that shined brighter than any other of their kind. "This was the engagement ring." he told her, holding up the little piece of jewelry. "And this one your wedding ring." it was even more beautiful than the first, if it were possible. There was an inscription on the inside that read: To love a lifetime is never enough. To love an eternity might come close, but I'll never be through loving you.
Kioh held the rings and her hand, losing his words again. His heart racing for her, for what would probably be the last time. "With these rings I wished to wed you. But now it seems my time has run out." Tears spilled over his eyes at last. "I've stored my energy over a hundred years in these rings, so I ask that you use them for yourself. So that, by Aslan's grace, your time will not run out, as mine has." He kissed the rings and placed them on her finger gently, and kissed her hand, his lips wet with salty tears. Kioh stood again. "Please, don't throw them away. Don't destroy them. I'd have lived in vain." Then he led he through a second door.
This room was a library. It's shelves filled with books. "These I've written for you." he told her. "All are filled with poems of love." but he couldn't bare to pick one up. Couldn't bare to read one to her now. "I'm sorry." he whispered, obviously ashamed. "But you'll have to read them on your own." The room was lit by the jars that lie on the far wall. Stars. From the sky. "More energy for you." he told her. "So that you can work on the magic of our people without fear of hurting yourself. It is an art and an honor to perform the magic of the ancient language. I pray you pick it up again for your enjoyment." And he closed the door. A small smile flicked over his lips for only a moment as he viewed the treasure room. He wondered if she had ever seen so many riches.
Kioh picked her up on his shoulder again and carried her up the ladder as carefully as before, and set her down when the reached the top. He went into the kitchen and opened a drawer, taking a scroll before returning to her. "This is the deed to the house." he said. "Keep it. It's yours now. No one can ever banish you from here. No one can pull you from it. It's yours forever. None may ever call you homeless, and homeless you shall never be." He bent to kiss her, but stopped himself. He wouldn't disobey any more of her wishes. So, he only put his hands on her shoulders. "Take care of yourself, Katy." he said. His face was soaking with tears. "Use the gifts I have given only for good. And know that I will always love you. Even after my death. If you ever need someone to talk to, talk to me. And I will listen. I may not be able to respond anymore, but my heart will always be with you. It always has been since the day you stole it." And with that, he returned her wand and walked to the door. His fingers trembled on the knob, and he turned to face her again.
"Do you think... No, nevermind." he turned back to the door, only to turn back and face her again. Eyes lowered. "Do you think... maybe... if it isn't too much to ask..." He turned back to the door, and turned back to her a second time. "Do you think... I might... have a death wish?"

She didn't understand. she had tried to kill him and he only responded with showing her so many beautiful things he had sung for her. She had not seen, even among her own kind, such a collection, and all of if was in tribute to her. She could not understand, it was impossible. The confusing, painful emotions started up again and she wanted them to leave, yet to stay. they felt oddly familiar. She wanted them to stay. But still . . . How can it be possible? Then when he asked her she looked up, thoughts she could not reconize before they fluttered away tearing through her mind. How could she deny him after seeing this? she nodded her head and waited for him to ask. Was she afraid of his answer?

Kioh bit his lip, his stomach again lurching with nervousness, as it had the first time he had ever really confronted her. A twinge of a smile flicked over his tear-stained lips again in remembrance of that day in the castle, when he had left the roses and poem at her door. That same day they decided to make her a wand, and they had eaten those potato things together at the bakers. She had come to his side when he had pretended to faint. Had tried to heal him, and he healed her with one of the many stars that lit the sky that evening. Happy memories for happy times. Oh so long ago...
And as the nervousness passed, he spoke again. "I ask only... to kiss you. And to hear you say that you love me. It doesn't have to be the truth," he added quickly, looking down. "I know you probably hate me right now. And with my death will that hatred be healed. But I've always had this thing in my mind... that if I kissed you... Maybe you could feel the chemistry that so easily shocks me just at the sound of your name. To hear you say that you love me would make up for everything I ever wanted to do in life, and I could die a happy man." He waited, before adding in. "Feel free to deny me. I don't want to hold you to anything you don't want to do. It was just... just a wish I had. That's all."
