"That's part of my problem, I don't know." She sighed, "I think part of me wanted to go to Calmoren, that's why I'm here. But what I'll do when I get there, what I'm hoping to find, I don't know. I just started walking and where I end up is where I end up. But then, How will I knew when to stop? How will I know I've found the place I should try to call home? Is it my destiny to just keep walking endlessly until I die?"

"No." Kioh finally said, stepping out from behind the dune. He walked to stand beside Katrina, before plopping down on the ground in the same position that she was in. He didn't know why, he just did. Maybe it was so that she wouldn't feel out of place. Maybe it was to try and impress her. Maybe he just wanted to fit in. Or maybe he was still fighting to earn acceptance by her. He didn't know.
"Calormen is dangerous. And if you go, I go with you. I will go with you and help you find your home, and I will not leave until you tell me to." At such a time, Kioh would go into the forest and die. He still meant every word of the letter he had first given her. All she had to do was say the word, and he would go. "But I will not let you wander until you die. You are too lovely to have such a horrible fate." Kioh looked up at her, trying to read her expressions. Would she be upset with him if he followed her? He hung his head, waiting for her response in slight fear. He didn't want to anger her, although he had meant what he said.

"But it isn't a horrible fate." She looked up as he spoke but looked back to the sand when he finished. She didn't think he would stay hidden forever. "It's the fate of my people. The wand-wielders are meant to wander until they find an apprentice and continue our people. I only cheated and tried to settle down with Caspian. But maybe I'm supposed to continue the way I was born to, to continue as a wand-wielder. I've gotten better, remembered alot of the spells I forgot, and I think I can take an apprentice, but I have to find one first. I just don't know where to look. My master told me it took him near a centuary to find me and even then he just overlooked me thinking I couldn't be the one and came back a few decades later realizing he was wrong. It's what we do. It's not a horrible fate."

"Then cheat again." Kioh begged. "Settle down with me. It would be cruel of me to ask you to stay in one place, so at least let me roam with you. Please, Katrina, just give me a chance and I promise to make you happy again. I will help find you an apprentice. I will protect you. I will feed you. I will defend you and keep you safe. You will never feel lonely again. I will listen when you need someone to talk to. I will hold you when you need someone to hold you. And I will sing to you when you need somebody to sing to you. I will not let you feel as if you are unloved. I love you, Katrina. Please, just give me a chance." He had scooted closer to her now, and his eyes seemed to beg her like a basset hound's eyes would. Then, with a voice that was just above a whisper, "Please."

"I don't know." after hearing his little speach she felt horrible just rejecting him. But she didn't love him. Maybe just letting him stay with her was dangerous. It gave him false hope. To make matters worse everything he said she wanted, but not from him. "I'm not meant to have all those things."

"Yes you are, Katrina, yes you are." he told her quietly. Then, a little bolder, "I know that you are meant to have all those things." He looked at her. Kioh thought for a moment about reaching for her hand, but he wasn't brave enough. And he didn't know if she would accept it even if he tried. So he kept his hands to himself, and looked up at her instead, "You may not realize it, or want to realize it, but you are very special. Everything you do entrances me. The way you talk with your sweet voice, the way your eyes shine when you think of something extraordinary, the way you walk so quietly with your little feet, the way you wave your wand and so effortlessly enchant what you please, the way you so majestically leap through the trees, the way your mind thinks with such unheard of intelligence, the way your rosy lips seem to make artwork out of words. I love you, Katrina. And I know you know that, but I don't think that you realize just how very much I do. There is nothing greater to me in this world than you. No elf, or any living thing, has ever been so magnificent and beautiful. Not one can match your personality that attracts me to you like a bee to a rose, and not one has ever been so rare to find. You are the only one my heart belongs to, Katrina, and beg of you, don't ignore it." Kioh pleaded.

Caspian watched and listened patiently, silent until now. "Give him a chance, Katrina." he chimed in on the boy's side. "He loves you. I can hear it in his voice. That's they way I talk to Susan. He looks at you the way that I look at her." the King said to her. "You have nothing to lose. Let him mend your troubled heart that pains you." Caspian advised. "Why not? Answer that, why not?"

She looked away as he spoke. He wasn't making anything eaiser by talking. She knew he loved her, she had heard it in his voice too. It was the way she had heard Caspian talk to susan, the way her own thought sounded when she looked at Caspian wanting to say them but bit back her tounge because Susan was in her arms. "I could . . . "She sighed after a while but never looking up at him. She wouldn't look at him. "let you try. But I warn you: You are hurting yourself. Only Caspian can heal me."

A smile leapt upon Kioh's lips that could never be shaken off. He shot up off the ground and into the air, before landing swiftly atop the sand again. His feet wouldn't stop moving now. He ran in circles around the oasis like an excited dog that had been caged all its life and had just been shown to the park. Then he came and knelt in front of her, smiling with an emotion that was far beyond happiness. He opened his mouth, but could hardly speak. Finally, he gently took her hand his, and slowly kissed the top of it. Just holding her hand made his heart beat to the point where he thought that he might explode, and her soft skin beneath his lips almost hypnotized him. "I won't let you down."

She watched him be happy for a while and almost laughed. But when he kissed her she pulled her hand away. She wasn't worried about him letting her down, she had nothing to hope for, but was letting him believe he could change her right. She was only giving him false hope. it wasn't right. She put all the rocks down and stood. "Now, where am I supposed to go now?"

When she pulled her hand back, she had brought him back to Earth. "Sorry." he said, embarrassment in his voice. It flooded over his face a little, making his ears turn slightly pink.
"You can do anything you like," Kion told her, "And I will go with you. Are you hungry? It's about time for supper. I can cook for you, or take you to a restaurant." he offered. "I'll even cook for Caspian, if you want him to come." said the elf. He looked away from her, still embarrassed for kissing her hand. He had just been happy, that was all. He hadn't wanted to offend her. Just one minute into trying to make her happy again, and he had already screwed up.

"No, I'm not realy hungry now." Any desire for food was long gone and wouldn't come back, not so long as the reminder of her cruelty still was beside her. "And you don't have to cook or anything. I don't need a servant, I just . . . " She couldn't say anything. She didn't know what she needed, or even wanted at this point. Maybe if she kept walking she would come up with something. "I just wanna walk." And she did knowing he would follow like a dog following a bucher who held a thick steak in his hands. It was Caspian she wondered about. Would he follow as she started northward towards Narnia? It would be to see Susan no doubt, but still, to have him walk with her . . . It would be just as savage to her heart as she was doing to Kioh, but she couldn't live without it.

Kioh jogged a few steps to catch up. "Not a servant." he said, "But a lover." he looked away. Now, he knew, wasn't the time to be telling her how much he loved her. But he couldn't lie to her, so he just decided to keep quiet for a while about his heart's burning passion for her. He walked close beside her, even in step, but still gave her her space. "You wanna talk about anything?" he asked her. Maybe she needed somebody to listen.

Caspian watched them go. He thought for a few moments about following after them, but decided not to. He would take his own route back to Narnia. Walking beside Katrina would come later, after the boy had a fair chance to win her heart. Caspian would just be a distraction as of now, and he thought it safer if he was out of Katrina's mind for a while. She needed a break, to focus on something other than himself.

"I don't know." but then again she didn't know anything, just pain. It seemed suffering was all she was good at. Everything she could or would ever want was pulled out from under her and put just out of her reach. It didn't used to be this way. Not when she served Caspian before she fell in love with his son and she was nothing more than Katy to him. But then everything went away, all happyness faded and she was exiled from narnia. Everything ended with the king's death. If she had somehow kept caspian alive she might still be happy. But she couldn't change the past and eternal auffering and a baron life was the punishment Aslan gave. Aslan was punishing her for what she did and she deserved it.but not Kioh. He was guilty of nothing except foolishly falling in love with a loveless heart. Now he was added to her troubles and she would watch him suffer at her hands for avsolutly no reason. She couldn't do it. Even if it meant using the cursed spell that ended the king all those years ago. . . He would be safe from her then. But could she do it? Could she kill him, the only man aside from caspian to love her, and live with it?
