Susan smiled as he did. She liked how he liked their child. That moment she decided to never do so much as consider it to be Lamont's, to never praise Caspian for caring for a child not of his own blood. The child was his anyway. But the father deserves to know . . . The voice told her giving words that did not hurt her for the first time. But then, if she told him something was wrong it could ruin the wonderful moment she was having. It was inside her, she would solve this herself for once. And the moment she knew, no matter how far away the day may be, or how soon, she would tell him. Just as she thought this the child disagreed with her and moved, kicking several times beneath Caspian's hand. He would have been dumb not to notice, but she knew he wasn't so he would know. But thankfully, the same moment it did, she thought she had found an answer. It might not have been right due to her inexpeirence, but she had known what she felt.

Caspian rubbed her belly. "Don't hurt your mother." he said to the child. "She didn't do anything to you." the man snuggled his wife and rested his head on top of hers. "Do you want it to be a boy or a girl?" he inquired. Caspian himself didn't mind either way, he just loved his baby. But it was always nice to hear what she was hoping for. He took her hand in his again and held it. His arms were wrapped around her and Caspian closed his eyes, listening.

"It dosn't matter," She said, "I'll love it just the same." She closed her eyes as he thought. Did he know? Did he think something was wrong inside her as well? If he did, what did he think about it? Was he afraid of what complications may come with her problems? She was afraid of what may happen durring the birth herself, what expectant mother wasn't, and her new knowledge of the child made nothing better. She spoke without truly deciding if she wanted to speak, "For a while I thought something was wrong," she said hoping he wasn't afraid, "He moved much faster than any child his age could for far to long. I thought maybe Lamont had done something to me while I was uncontious in the forest to make it like this. But just now, I think I may have found my own answer, and I don't need to be afraid. I know everything I felt was probably normal and that they're safe."

Caspian's eyes opened again, worried now. His heart thudded hard against his chest, beating as if it itself wanted to make things better. "Wrong?" Caspian asked. Her calmness with the situation was the only thing that made him want to be calm too. He took a deep breath to do so, but it just couldn't be done with the next word. "They?" he asked. Caspian looked at her, apprehensiveness in his eyes. He stroked the side of her body again, stopping at the baby. Are you alright? Caspian thought in his head, but it couldn't come to words because his voice had left him yet again.

Susan turned in his arms again and looked up into his eyes. There was worry in them, but thankfuly, not fear. "They," She repeated kissing him softly, "When one is still the others move. Rarely do they all dance together. I think a moment ago they were fighting. Everything is as it should be, I think." She smiled, waiting for his reaction.

They, one, others, all... these were Caspian's only clues. "Susan. . ." he spoke her name lovingly, but no one could let the concern pass by unnoticed. "Susan," he said again. His sentence would stop there, his tongue unable to form the words that followed. "Susan," he began again, "Three of them? Are there three of them? Triplets?" Caspian asked. He didn't know if he should be overjoyed or completely worried. Three children was a gift from Aslan, but so many things could go wrong at any time during Susan's pregnancy. He embraced her, waiting for an answer that he thought he already knew.

Susan noded excited and worried at the same time. "I think so," She told him. To be a father was a wonderful thing, but to have two at once, much less three was a blessing so rare only a handful of people can say they have expeirenced. But even as happy as she was she couldn't help but hear the strain of worry in his voice. "It's alright," She said comfortingly, "I'll be alright. You said yourself that Aslan would bless us. If Aslan is for us then who is powerful enough to stand against him. You will be a father and together we'll have three little babies to call our own."

Caspian kissed her and held her tight. Tears of both happiness and fright ran down his face, that he quickly had to extinguish. Three little ones was amazing, extraordinary, unheard of. He smiled weakly. Aslan, help us. he thought to himself. Caspian looked down at her stomach again, trying to imagine three little babies growing inside. "What about you, though?" he asked. "What if something goes wrong? What if..." Caspian couldn't finish that one. He was going to say, 'What if one of them died?'. The odds of all three of them living was slim, but still possible. They were a threat to Susan's life as well, and Caspian hugged her tighter. She was so young, even to just be having one baby. She was only seventeen. But three....

"I'll be alright," She told him letting him hold her knowing it comforted both of them. Also it gave an excuse that he could not see the doubt in her eyes. "I know more about these things. I was forced to study it at school in England." She told him half truth, she had never been taught how to do anything, much less with midevil era medicin, but more of what to expect. "I'm sure the worst that could happen will be nothing at all." That she knew was a lie. Dieing in labor through loss of blood or other complications was common without the technology England offered. The same goes for dieing at birth. If anything goes wrong it could spell death for her and her children. "However many months we have left to wait for them to be born will pass and then it will be done. I can't tell you how long it'll take, but it'll be fine."

Caspian hugged her, and he could barely speak over the lump in his throat. "But what if?" he kept asking. That was definately one of his flaws, worrying over what could be, rather than what was. He kissed the top of her head and held her close. He wished that he could see into the future, to know what was going to happen, because the blindness was killing him. He felt ignorant. Helpless. Worried. This was the one thing that he couldn't protect her from. Caspian would pray to Aslan every night after this until his children were born. He would pray for all four members of his family to be safe. It was all that Caspian could do. "I don't want to lose any of you." he told her, again with some difficulty.

"I don't want to lose you either," She told him, "but everything will be alright, you'll see." She looked up at his and kissed his jawline. "Just calm down, and be patient. Besides, I don't want to worry about childbirth on our wedding night. The babies is a good subject, just not the birth."

"I'm not going anywhere." he said. 'Just calm down, and be patient' she had told him. How could he? In eight months, it was possible that one or all of his family would be torn from his life forever. He had just gotten his family, he didn't want to lose them. Not even one of them. But now Caspian knew which things to stay away from in conversation, and he would respect that. Despite his constant worries that ate at his mind and heart like little parasites. He kissed her, and then glanced down at the children again. "How are they now?" he asked, trying his best to stay way from his concerns.

She put her hand over her children and closed her eyes trying to not only feel them but to imagine what was happening as well. "They seem alright." She said, "Only one of them is doing anything. Wait, he's stopped now and another one's started. And it kicked me." This was the way things would always be inside of her, them always moving and kicking and sometimes fighting. She wondered how she would ever sleep again. She curled against Caspian knowing his comforting touch was her only hope for a good night's rest in the next five or six months.

Caspian forced a laugh. He wanted to at least appear to be happy in front of her. He wondered if she could tell that he was still worrying about the four of them. "I thought I told you not to hurt your mother." He said to them, and put his hand over Susan's and wrapped his arms around her, resting his head on the pillow. He closed his eyes, but didn't go to sleep. He didn't want to. If he did, it might be his turn for the nightmares. He didn't want that.

Lamont walked, not to quickly holding the leather strip in his hand. At the other end the wolf pulled and tugged to escape with fruitless results every time. But when he was not planing escape he was doing as he was told, following Swordtail's trail.
"He was here," The wolf said sneezing, "and so was the master."
"He is master no more," Lamont told him, "he is a coward, a weak coward. And I have outgrown him." He forced to wolf to lay like a pup dose to the alpha male of the pack as he thought. His spy had not returned and the coward was there. They must've found the bird and gotten rid of it, perhaps offering his family freedom, perhaps by killing him. In either case it proved that the coward was right: Queen Susan had something to hide from him, and that something was his son. "Send word to the centaurs and the Demons of Balsone. The ones of Ferina are not necessary nor the ones of Nidda," He ordered untieing the leash from around his neck, "tell them we strike the Telmar Stronghold very soon.
