Susan jumped as she heard the sound of fire outside the castle. She ran to one of the many windows to see her lover trapped behind a prison of flames with the shape-shifter above him. He was too far away for one of her arrows to reach him making them, once more, useless. but unlike last time she could change that. She forced herself to run, ignoring her protesting stomach, until she was in range. She nocked an arrow and aimed ready and waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

Suddenly Caspian was glad that they were out of earshot. If Susan heard what was going on he knew that she'd come running, and he could do nothing to protect her. Caspian threw his cloak over the fire, drawing it out again before it could catch flame. He wasn't a new player at this game. Soon there was a space just large enough for him to jump through, and his cloak burned behind him on the ground. "And see you will." he shouted up to the beast. Caspian ran, his arms and legs carrying him fast. Suprised to see Susan, he ran around to join her. His hand naturally slid around her waist. No one would snatch her from him. "Run." he said to her, and began to lead her away from the castle. As much as Caspian wanted to go there, to find a place to hide in there, they couldn't. Lucy was there too, and going to the great protection of stone walls would mean putting her in danger.

The flying tiger snarled when he saw the girl following. She wasn't supposed to come after him, but then again he had been right about her: She was just like his mother. Strong willed and determined as an ox, yet still as gentle as the softest rain. That was Kirina's way. But for now he didn't want her to be a part of this. He roared and let his fire fall around her, seperating the two of them once more. Without his cloak he didn't see how Caspian could reunite himself with her. he landed near Caspian, just out of reach of his sword. The tiger body faded to become a full dragon's and he clawed the ground. "I am waiting."

Susan ducked as the fire fell sure it would hit her, but it didn't, only kept her from Caspian which was just as bad.. She pulled back on the string as the monster became a dragon and readied himself for a fight. A dragon's scales were hard. Only if she was lucky would her arrows be able to peirce them, and even then she would have to be closer. She needed to get past the wall of flames, But how? She called to Caspian, as though he would have a way, but knew he didn't.

"Susan!" he yelled for her. Caspian turned back to the dragon, a snarl on his face. Be quick and nimble. He thought to himself. He could run his finger through the flame of a match without being burned if he was quick enough, which wasn't very hard. All you had to do was not allow your finger to sit in the flames. He looked over to Susan, and he could see her through the flames. Would he attack the dragon or run to his lover? If he attacked, he could end it all now. But if he stayed away from her, she could be captured. If he ran to her, and if he could make it even there without being burned, he didn't know just what would happen.
Caspian plunged himself from the flames and into Susan's circle, his heart beating fast. Would he make it through the fire a second time? Barely. He landed, his face digging into the soft ground. Scrambling, he kicked off his boots that had caught fire. It didn't matter. He didn't really need them right now anyway.
He stood and pulled her into an embrace. "Don't let him separate us." he said, and afterward he wouldn't let go of her. They had only moments before the dragon would be coming into their circle. Caspian kissed her and looked into her eyes. "If anything happens, get yourself out of here." he said.

Yes, protect the girl, protect your lady. It is your duty, it is your end. the armor plated beast spilled air from his great wings and dove for the embracing couple. So far the plan hadn't worked. Yes he had gotten Caspian to fight, given him reason and desire to fight, but it still was not his goal. He aimed for where he saw the two of them and closed his eyes, ready for the near-suisidal impact, yet not wanting to see it.

"No," She told him, "Last time I pushed for us to seperate I got hurt. I am not going to let that happen. I am not going to be weak here, not this time." Then the dragon fell. she pushed Caspian to one side and dove after him. Within the next instand she pulled herself up enough that she could kneel and fire an arrow aiming for his neck. The arrow chipped the armor but did not fully sink in and she cursed as the dulled arrow fell aside. It would never be of any use again.

Caspian hit the ground again, then shuddered as he heard the great sound of the dragon clashing into the earth. If that didn't break a few bones, nothing would. "Thank you." Caspian said to Susan. "Are you alright?" but he remembered to pay attention this time, and watched the dragon carefully.
Caspian had read about dragons. In fact, Caspian had read about a lot of things. But right now he waited for the beast to get up. Dragons were armored everywhere, except for their bellies. That's why they laid on piles of gold and silver and precious gems, allowing the stones to stick to their skin and protect them. But the shape-shifter had no such protection. Get up. he thought desperately.
"Shoot for the belly." he whispered to her. "That's his weak point."

The dragon stood, shaking dirt from his scales just as a dog might with water, looking just as fierce as he always had. his body hurt, but nothing had been extremely damaged. But he had missed his target and he began to rethink his stratigy. To dive was to crash, to fly was to be shot, what else was a dragon to do? He leaned back on his hind legs, belly close to the ground, and leaped in a cat-like pounce. No true self-respecting dragon would ever attempt such a move, but he did it just the same. After all he wasn't a true dragon. With his claws and fangs before him he aimed for Caspian and again closed his eyes not wanting to see the outcome.

Peter was lost in thought, trying to decide how he would let Syria escape when a loud bang pulled him from them. He snapped his head up to see fire licking at one of the many windows. He saw Caspian as well as Susan. He stared in horror for a few seconds before lunging forward. He was stopped by two giant lions. "What the...." Peter started swearing as one leaped at him, forcing him to the ground. His sword fell a few inches away.

"I'm fine," She told him, "Worry about the dragon, not me." She forced herself to her feet, for only a moment, before he already strained and constantly changing body dememded she stay to the ground and she fell reading another arrow. The moment she saw his stomach she would fire.
But then he blocked his stomach and leapt at Caspian. Knowing only to rely on instinct while in battle she forced herself to try to find a way to help him. But before he had the chance the dragon had already landed with Caspian beneath him. She screamed for him and stood again, only to collapse once more.

Bingo. Caspian thrust his sword full speed into the soft flesh of his enemy. He yelled triumphantly, but then the beast's body came thundering down upon him. He struggled to remove his sword and began to crawl, trying to find away out. He felt like a mouse under a box, only with a dragon on top of him. Caspian's arms reached freedom first, then his head. His blade was still in his hand, covered in blood. But the odds were that the shape-shifter was still alive, and he scrambled to get out from beneath him. Success! Almost. His leg was stuck beneath the weight of him from the knee down.

The beast roared in pain as the sword cut through his unprotected underside. It was a common trick, he should have seen it coming. He fell on his side, almost growling and he did not dare move. "It didn't work," he said in the dragon's voice, "I am sorry."

Susan saw him as he pulled himself free of the monster and ran to him holding him tight. "I thought I lost you." She said crying happily, "Don't ever make me scared like that again." But then the monster rolled over apologizing. She wouldn't let him get to her this time, she had her arrows ready again in case he tried anything, though she doubted it.

"I'm sorry." Caspian said to his lover. But he couldn't hold back the smile on his face. They were safe. When the beast rolled off of him his leg came free. When she embraced him he hugged her back as if should he let go she would be gone from him forever. Caspian kissed her lips and wiped away the tears from her face. "How are you?" he asked her.
