When Caspian saw him again he looked over to his own father, and remembered something more from their conversation. "The shape-shifter says that on his way back from Dark Isle, he saw someone looking for Lucy. The person didn't know that Lucy had been captured or returned. -Said his name was Tumness." Caspian finished.

"Mr. Tumness was one of Lucy's closest friends when we were rulers here. Neirther would admit it but I think he may have loved her. In the end we left, without even knowing what was happening, and he stayed in Narnia without her. When we came back it was hundreds of years later and he couldn't have been alive. Why would he come back now?"

"He thinks that the allies that Lamont has are the souls of the dead." Caspian shuddered. It was a bone-chilling thought. "But if Tumness was Lucy's friend, then I don't think he would join with Lamont against her, would he?" Caspian thought for a while as he watched all of them together, Peter, Lucy, and their Father. "Why don't you go over there?" he asked Susan. "It seems to me that you haven't seen him in such a long time, why wouldn't you run to him?"

"He could join him for the same reasons Peter did, by love or force." She hated the cruel thoughts the boy put into her mind. How could he tear apart the hearts of all who join him. "And you alreasy know why I can't just go there. I just . . . can't. I made a promise, I swore to keep, to him a long time ago, well, two promises actualy, and Lamont's gone and broken both of them, I'm sure of it. How could he want me back."

"Susan, Lamont broke those promises, not you." Caspian said. "You have nothing to be ashamed of." Then something hit him like a tone of bricks. Two promises? Caspian would ask her about it later, deciding that now wasn't nearly the time and place. "C'mon, I'll take you to them." he offered, taking her hand in his. But Caspian wouldn't move an inch closer to the group unless Susan said it was okay.

When he took her hand she couldn't move. Tears were forming, she couldn't do it. Too many secrets to keep from him hurt her. Her promises, her weakness, her sickness, everything hurt. She had to tell him. But then he would turn away. But she thought that when Lamont first hurt her, maybe he would still stay. But the chances were too small. Think of all the other people you've seen and how they are tossed aside like nothing. But they don't love like she did. But she didn't know that for sure. So many times her mind fought with itself, never actualy choosing a side until at last she could take no more. He grip tightened as she spoke, "I'm sorry," She said, "nothing should be kept from you. I love you to much." She lowered her voice so the others wouldn't hear and pulled him closer hoping he would do something comforting. "When I was thirteen I started having thoughts about maybe dating one day. I never actualy did, but my dad told me about all these things that I didn't want. I promised that, no matter what happens, I would stay a virgin until the day I was married. Then along with it I promised that I wouldn't get myself preagnant until at least a few months after the wedding after me and my husband are ready. Lamont took that away from me too. I'm not sick."

Caspian's eyes went wide. His tongue swelled up in the back of his throat and he could hardly talk. Instead he just hugged her tightly. His heart fell so far into his stomach that not even tears could form in his eyes. Susan was far too young to be a mother. Plenty mature, but far too young. Caspian didn't know what to say, much less if he could say anything at all with his tongue stuck in his throat. He stroked her hair comfortingly. This explained the dreams that she had been having, and explained just about everything else since then. "You'll be a great mother." he said, "I'm sure of it." his voice was encouraging. But in his heart he still couldn't believe that his best friend, his hopefully wife-to-be, was pregnant with his cousin's child.

Give him time. the cruel voice in the back of her mind came again, He'll be soft now, but in time he'll change his mind. The voice came, never failing, in times when she needed peace. It was always willing to be the one to hurt her most. Caspian won't stay, he has no reason to. You will bear the child of his cousin and he will leave you. Besides, even if he dose the world will not accept you any more. You have shamed yourself beyond what is reasonable. Not even the great forgiving Aslan will come and help you now. Stop it. She wanted the voice to end, but it never would. Tears came again, full force, as all the thoughts sank in becoming reality in her mind. You are supposed to be a narnian queen, yet you destroyed yourself. No man would stand and support a girl, pregnant with the child of a man she hates, much less unmarried. foolish stupid girl. "The world will hate me." She said to Caspian letting the voice become words. "I'm not going to be a good mother. I can't even protect myself. When Lamont finds out he'll come after it and I'll fail. It will either live as the son of a madman, or die while we try to save it."

"That's not fair." Caspian said, letting her cry. "The world loves you. I love you. Narnia will not turn its back on you because you were attacked." he said. Caspian patted her back soothingly. "Lamont doesn't have to find out. A child can't control who its father is. It's not fair." Caspian kissed the top of her head and held her close to him. It really wasn't fair, to Susan or the child. "And you will be a good mother." he said. "I know you will."

"All is fair in love and war. I love you, we're at war with him. It will never end." She told him knowing it was truth. No matter what had happened when she stood before Narnia with her belly full they will still see her as an unmarried, unworthy queen. There was no escaping that. She held him tighter as her emotions ran freely going from fear of the comming child and the problems it brougt, to hatred of the boy who caused it and he will cause more, to the fear of her father, to love for Caspian. Never did her mind hold still; never was there peace. She closed her eyes as she leaned against his chest. The unseen child had caused so much inside her that she would prefer to remain hidden. But now it was that she wanted to rest again. It took her a long time to leave, but eventualy did, going to Lucy and hugging her never actualy making contact with her father.

Caspian followed her and hugged Lucy again. But his main reason for following was so that Susan didn't have to face her father alone. So immediately he asked a good question far from the topic of Susan's pregnancy, so that the conversation would never wander into that topic. "So how did you find us here?" asked Caspian. "How did you get into Narnia?" He reached out for Susan's hand.

She took his hand and still never looked at her father. She would stay silent not wanting to let him hear fear and regret in her voice. She would always look at Lucy or Peter or Caspian for the same reasons. She hated this feeling, hiding from her own father, but what else could she do?

Peter looked at Susan with a questioning look. What was she hiding from them? And mostly from him? He stored that question in mind, telling himself that he needed to talk to her. Lucy ran and hugged him tightly. He wrapped his arms around his youngest sister. He reached out a hand and stroked her hair gently. Their father was lost in thought. "I was fighting on the battlefront. There was a lot of screaming, yelling and noises. The generals were barking orders. Battlefire was thrown across the field and exploded. I remember being in very very sever pain and seeing a huge lion before I blacked out. The nex thing you know, I'm here....in....Narnia," Peter stared at his father in horror. He had diedand their mother was alive? The king started to tremble as tears forced themselves down his face.

"Aslan?" Caspian asked excitedly. "Aslan saved you? Is Aslan back?" With the Great Lion on their side, if he truely had returned, would be the best thing to start gathering forces and allies. He looked over at Susan, silently asking what she thought of the story.

Their father had a confused look. "The lion has a name?" he mused. Lucy looked at Peter. "I guess he's back considering I've seen him but what does that mean to you?" The high king sighed.
