She felt her the muscles in her wrists and hands clenching as her fingers bent into her eagleclaw. She held it for a moment ready to strike the boy before the limbs went limp. Another emotion was burning inside her, only this one she did not want to know. What was it about this boy that made so many emotions build inside her. "I am sorry," She said, "But you've fallen in love with the wrong woman. There are thousands of other elves for you to find. But don't come after me, it will only lead to pain. Your heart has mislead you to me and if you search within yourself you can understand who it is you truely love. I would not dare bring suffering to an innocent soul who can still find love elsewhere. It is not a life worth living."

"I haven't fallen in love with the wrong women!" Kioh exclaimed for the first time. "My heart didn't mislead. I have searched within myself, and it is you and no other! I've loved you since we were kids." he bit his tongue. This must have been awkward for her to be hearing all of this. But still, he swore it all in there language. A truth. Then when she said her last line, his face fell. "I know." he said, and pointed to the paper. To burn one petal and set it free. Free to the wind where he could see it fly, then he would say goodbye. He knew perfectly well what she meant.

"how could you have loved me all those years ago? My master kept me so far from everyone because of my training that I hardly knew anyone else, if at all. There was no boy like you who ever came to me. If you loved me then why wouldn't you come." She stopped as the thought about the rose and the burned petal. Was it right for her to condem this boy to death simply because she could not stop loving Caspian. Maybe she would keep the petals, even if she never left. But then that would make him no better of than her, constantly wanting, never finding. that was even worse. But if shere were to let go of Caspian, just to keep him from dieing, and maybe try to accept him, once she understood how he had come to know so much about her, she may try to love again. What was she thinking?

"There was a time, before your master. We must have been about one hundred twenty. I met you once, but I was with a group of friends at the time. You seemed so... extraordinarily different." he said. In human years, they would have been similar to twelve year olds at the time. And then, " I didn't come because I was a little bit scared of you. Eagleclaw." he said the name that so many had called her in the town. "I didn't want you to get angery." She wouldn't even have known now, if she hadn't caught him hiding.

"Maybe I did know you back then, I don't remember much before my training." She sighed and looked to the place in the arm of her clothes where her wand was stored when she wasn't useing it. She wouldn't use it now that Caspian had destoried it. So much of her life was now waisted. "Why would you fear me? I was easy to anger, I know that all to well, but it is nothing a child can't stop with magic." She had never been feared before and the thought was both exilerating and terrifing. "I am not that hard to control."

"I didn't want to use magic against you. -Don't want to." he said. Kioh looked away from her eyes again, nervous. He looked back to her. "You still love the King. Don't you?" his voice was sad and glum, and he could only look into her eyes for a moment after the words left, and then his brown eyes looked back down at his feet.

She was silent for a moment at his question. She did, dose, and probably always will love Caspian. But she knew how painful it was to have love turn away from you. She would feel horrible crushing the boy with her words like Caspian did to her. "It is a shame among the elves to love a human," She said at last, "But I may. But our kind don't take wives or husbands anyway. It is in our nature to love something and our thoughts and true name changes and what we loved will be no more. Besides, Caspian is human and will die far before I do anyway."

"Not all elves are like that." Kioh said quietly. He would always love Katrina 'till he died. And then, "He might live longer than a human." his voice was thoughtful now, even if he didn't like the facts. "Rumor has it that he's half demon." Kioh still loved Katrina, but he knew that she loved Caspian. But Caspian loved Susan, and they were married, making Kioh's chances that Katrina would ever love him slightly greater. But still, they were slim. He shuffled his feet, feeling uncomfortable.

""I know what he is," She said sighing and thinking of his demon mother and human father, "He is the son of Firemane: the mate of Cotnar: The lord of the Firefields. She was sent to capture King Caspian the IX's heart but in the process he captured hers as well. After Caspian's birth she was taken back. Regardless of what he says I believe she has begun to love and longs to be with her half-blood, but stays because she is afraid of what Cotnar will do to her other children in her absence."

Kioh simply nodded. His eyes flicked over to the flowers again. And the note. Would she ever meet him in the forest? Probably not. He hadn't expected her to. But Kioh would still be waiting there regardless. Perhaps one day, if an angel smiled down at him from the stars, Katrina would love him. Did she even like the poem? This, too, was a 'probably not' answer. Try as he might on it, it was poorly written. But the words were true. Every one of them. The elf listened as she told him of Caspian's mother. He really didn't care about the bloodline of the King, but he still paid his attention to her, nodding. Kioh still felt awkward and out of place, embarrassed and nervous. If she hadn't known that it was him, would she have liked the note and roses? Maybe it was him that she didn't like. His heart sank, if possible, further into his chest.

She watched him as she forced herself to acknowledge the guilt she felt. He was hurt, she could see it in his eyes. She went back into her room waving for him to join her and sat on her knees over the matress the humans used for a bed. She had prefered the beds of leaves, ferns, and pine neddles the elves made in the forest trees, but there was nothing she could do now that she lived in a human castle. She put the roses to her nose, letting herself breath in their scent. "Did you sing them?" She asked deciding it better to shift the focus to him.

Kioh followed her into the room and looked around. It looked neat and clean. He couldn't help but smile as she smelled the roses. "Yes." he answered happily, looking at her pretty face among the crimson petals. "Do you like them?" he asked her, still smiling. A hand went to the back of his neck and he looked down. He was still kind of bashful around her, but happier at least.

"I do," She told him likeing how his mood changed. She was about to say something about the colors of the roses and their meanings among humans and it's meaning, but thought against it. "I've always liked roses best of all flowers and these are truly flawless. The shaft perfectly straight, the thorns positioned so they appear to spirial up the shaft, every petal perfectly placed. I have never seen anything done better."

His smile only grew bigger, revealing his white elven teeth. "I'm glad you like them." he said joyfully. Kioh looked up at her again, and a thought came to his mind. A rush of confidence came to back it up, but still he wondered if he should open his mouth and say it. The elf wanted to ask her out and invite her to dinner, but such a thing Katrina might not appreciate his asking. He knew that she dreamed of the King asking her this, and Kioh thought that if he asked, then he might just be a disappointment to her. But still, maybe, he would ask her.

"You'll have to teach me to make flowers like these." She sighed, "I'm no good at elf magic realy. I knew some when we were younger, but now I have to fight to make childish spells and use energy from those around me becasue I don't have enough and I would die if I tried to do it on my own. All I had was my wand, but Caspian broke it." She looked back for a moment remembering how he had broken her source of magic out of revenge for her assult on Susan. But then her mind went to a thought that could change it. "To recreate a wand I could spend years in the moutains singing. But if I tell you the words you could sing them here and make one for me soon enough. Judgeing by these you should be skilled enough."
