The lion listened as his son cared for his lover. He spoke calmly, unlike when he was enraged moments earlier. With her he was soft, with not a hint of anger left in him. She trembled enough for his eyes to see it, but he had calmed her to peacefulness in seconds. It was only then, when they began to talk of marriage did he notice the sparkle of the diamond on her finger. Again he bowed and then roared happily. He had never thought he would see his son marry, especially not so soon. He had seemed so much against marriage before for the very reasons he spoke of now. "I'd never thought I'd see this," He roared in his lion voice as he licked his son with his dry cat tongue. "My son, a husband. And never could I ask for a better daughter."

Caspian glared at him curiosly, and knelt beside Susan, protecting her when the lion came near. "How can you be my father?" Caspian snarled. He remembered Susan's point that she had brought up in Cair Paravel about the tiger in the Dark Ilse. "You kept me away from her, let her be taken by my cousin, and fought me when there was no enemy around to see you. Lamont hurting her when you attacked me. If you hadn't done that, I could have stopped him. There was no one, not even the devil of last living blood of my family around for you to convince of your false loyalties." Caspian glared at him. "I am not your son and she is not your daughter."

The lion backed away heavy-hearted as Caspian rejected him. He lowered his head again, but said nothing at first. He was right, he had done wrong. It island's darkness made things hard for him, said things to him he did not like. It used his fears against him, to drive him to do things he did not want to. Regardless of the changeling blood within him he was still a human, still prone to the hearts weakness. "I had never known . . ." He said trying desperately to come up with an explanation his son would understand. He had never heart the Dark Isle speak. How could he believe him. "My time away from you left me lost. The Island told me you were dead many years ago, about the time you should have been seven. But I was told many other things, a prophesy given to the island many centuries ago. It told me of a gentle queen that would marry the rightful Telmarine king. Without you the throne would go to Lamont. I thought it was his rightful place. I hadn't realized that after all these years you were still alive. I only thought your parents were loyal to our family and that we were your namesake. I was wrong, and I want only to right the wrongs that I have caused you."

Caspian stared at him for the longest time. "How could you not have known it was me! I look exactly like my father!" Then he growled. "And how could you possibly think that Lamont was the rightful King? He has the face of the Devil himself!" Caspian put his fingers on the side of his head as if to make it more convincing. He couldn't believe his father's story. Not for a moment. "And the Ilse wasn't the first time that you had seen me either. You had months to realize that it was me who was in the forest." Caspian kept close to Susan, protecting her as if the beast would pounce on them both. "Why should I believe you?"

She listened to her story, her hand moving constantly across her stomach trying to help it memorize her touch. She didn't know whether to believe him or not. She believed it to be Caspain's choice, it was his father not her's. Her duty was to follow her decision wherever it may lead her. If things got out of hand then it was her place to step in. "This voice of the dark isle," She asked looking for a reason to believe. Caspian deserved a family. "could it be the same one that won't leave me?"

"I am your father," He said sadly, "but I have not seen my own face in over a decade. This life I lived on the dark Isle required me to constantly fight for my life against the monsters that lived there. My human form was defenceless against them so I took on a new body: The chimera. That was the face I had become used to. When I became human for your sake in the forest it was the first time I had done it since I learned to change." He pused as he thought to answer the next question that was thrown at him like a firing squad. "Lamont has the face of my brother, that I knew. He also carried with him stories of Narnia and the golden age after my death under the leadership of his father. I now know that this golden age was a lie given to him by the woman who raised him, still loyal to her brother. I know I had many moons to realize that it was my son that stood against me, sword drawn, but I did not and the fault is mine. The Island's words had me convinced you were dead, so the thought never crossed my mind." Then he said looking to Susan, "It is very possible that the voice that tells me of my son's death is the very same that haunts you. It seeks out the ones it wishes to curse for reasons I have yet to understand. Three times I have seen people come to the Dark Isle and be driven mad by the voice, two of them could not stand the voice and threw themselves off the cliffs to the east."

Caspian thought as hard as he could, but it was as if his mind had shut down. He just couldn't decide if he could trust the beast or not. "What do you think, Susan?" he asked. He really wanted her opinion in this, because his could not settle upon yes or no. Caspian looked into the lion's eyes, trying to find hidden secrets or lies. What was he? His father or Lamont's little pet? Try as he might, Caspian couldn't tell.

"I will understand if I an sent away at the point of a sword." He said, "I have done horrible wrongs to you and your lover. I let the island tell me you were dead. I let it place this curse over me. But keep me if you will have me. I will fight against Lamont until I have earned your trust, whether you chose to accept to accept me here and now or later. And then, perhaps I will be allowed to see my grandchildren. Perhaps I will see them grow to be strong warriors and fair leaders like their parents."

"The choice is yours. He is your father and you are king." She told him, "If you think him being here will ruin our wedding day then send him away. I will stand by you no matter what." She wanted to tell him how much she wanted to believe in him, but couldn't. Her choice would influince his, possibly even change his mind. "But is there some way to stop the dark isle's voice. If it wern't for Caspian, by now I think I may have joined the other two on the cliffs."

Caspian thought and thought hard. If this was his father, even if the odds were slim to none, then he wouldn't want him to miss his wedding day. But if it was his enemy, he wouldn't want him to even look in the direction of the ceremony. Caspian closed his eyes, thinking. "If you are what you say you are, stay for the wedding. But one wrong move, one lie, one trespass, one wrong word, and I'll turn you away to Lamont. He will do with you as he wishes. But prove to me that I can truly trust you. Prove that you are indeed my father, and you can be family again. But I promise nothing as far as when my trust for you will come. It could be in several years or it could be tomorrow." He turned to Susan and stopped breathing. "Please, don't ever do that." Caspian begged of her. He didn't think he could live if she killed herself.

"Because of you I never will." She told him curling against his chest. How much longer would they be delayed their wedding? She looked towards the sun that was still rising. Peter could actualy still be asleep and so could the others. Edmund still hasn't returned with news of the comming war. "I could go get Peter and Lucy now. Then it would be done." Without waiting for a responce she left and went to Peter's room. She covered his mouth with her hand so he could see her ring when he opened his eyes and pulled him by his arm. "You have things to do today." she told him happy again.

"Good." he said, glad to know that he would never lose her that way. He almost laughed as she got up to get her brother and sister, and a smile spread across his face again. She was going way too fast, but he found it amusing. He had only been her fiance for a little over an hour, if that. And now he would be her husband in that little amount of time again. Just this morning he had only been her boyfriend. Now Caspian had to laugh at his Cuddle-bug. Her enthusiasm made him happy, and also made him feel foolish once more for even thinking that she might have said 'no' when he asked her to marry him. Caspian sat there, staring at the wall with a smile on his face, when the stench of blood aroused him from his day dreams. The bird was still in his room. The man went to the bathroom and snatched a towel off the towelrack, carefully wrapping the bird inside of it. He used another towel or two to wipe up the blood. Then he took the glass of water from his bedside, along with yet another towel, and cleaned his sword.

Peter moaned as he turned over. He slowly opened one eye and glowered at her. "You know, thats the way you always woke me up when you were younger Sus. Either by doing that or pincing my nose so I-" his voice trailed off and his eyes went wide. He gripped the arm that was pulling his and his face suddenly grew whiter. "Susan Maria Pevensie," he said sternly. "Is that what I think that is?" his vision became clear now. He tried smoothing his ruffled hair as he sat up. He pulled his legs up to his chest, pulling the blankets up on him. Peter didn't say anything. He just stared at the wall with a million thoughts going through his mind. Lyric was still no where to be found. He had given up all hope that she would. His eyes suddenly narrowed at the pastle walls. Well look on the bright side, a voice in his mind said. Your sister still has her lover. Oh shut it, he snapped at it. He turned to Susan and kept his expression as smooth as possible. "Congrats," he said, trying to fake some happiness in his voice.

"You have to do the ceremony." She told him happily stoping only to let him see it, "I know I only got it this morning, but we couldn't wait any longer and I don't think we could afford to." She shook her head and lead him on hpoing she didn't press for answers. She was happy Caspian had already cleaned the bird she had murdered by the time they reached it. Some of the blood still shone on the stone floor, probably to stain it forever, but she hoped Peter wouldn't see it. She didn't need a questioning before the wedding. She went to Caspian, wanting so desperatly to hold him, and slipped her hands in his. Now she only waited for Peter to begin

Caspian laughed and held her hand tightly. "This will be an interesting story to tell our children." he said. "We were married by their uncle in his pajamas, in my bedroom." Caspian chuckled. It didn't get any more 'True Love' than that. "What about Lucy?" he asked as he looked around the small area. "She wouldn't want to miss this either."
