"Can't be too careful now, with the war and all." he said, humor still in his voice. When the food had cooled, he lifted it to his lips. Kioh took a bite, chewing and swallowing it. He waited for a while, and then rolled his eyes back in his head. He dropped to the floor.

"Kioh?" She said and she ran to his side. Maybe someone had found out who, or in this case what, they were. Maybe they were being hunted. A few people around her were starting to stare and whisper, but luckily the area wasn't too crowded. She put his hand over his heart and felt his pulse. It was beating, but it seemed slow to her. She looked inside herself, analyzing her ability as the thought of a spell she could use. She might have had the strength to do it, but it was worth the try. "Waíse heill!"

Kioh laughed and sat up, putting a hand over her mouth. "No no, don't waist your strength, I was only joking." he said, smiling at Katrina. She had run to him, and that was enough to bring happiness to his eyes. He helped her up, pulling out her chair for her like a gentlemen. "I won't do it again though, I promise." he teased. Kioh couldn't help but wonder if he had taken it too far that time. She had really been worried about him, and she might be upset.

The spell seemed to have no effect on his heart or his body. But as he laughed she understood: Nothing was wrong to begin with. But it was already too late. Once the words are spoken the magic is released and could not be retracted. Darkness closed on her conscience as she shook her head. She opened her mouth to speak as the image of his face blurred in front of her, but she lacked the strength to speak. Instead her eyes closed and she fell limply into his arms.

His eyes went wide. "No!" he shouted, looking down at her. Kioh closed his eyes and focused on the things around him. He drew from the trees outside, the bugs beneath the earth, the grass from the soil beyond the shop, even the food had energy and he drew from it. Lastly, he gave her his own strength. All of it until it threatened to knock him out, and he stopped. Kioh tapped her beautiful face, and rubbed her cheek. "C'mon, wake up!" he begged. "I was only joking! Katrina, come on!" He sat on the floor with her on his knees, looking down at her. "Please!"

Strength was flowing into her at the same rate it was leaving. At last her energy stopped flowing simply because any effect the spell would have given would have stopped. But the strength around her continued. It was enough to wake her, but not enough to do much else. "Wasn't a very nice joke," She managed to whisper as she opened her eyes. The world was still burry, but she could still know it was him by his voice.

"I'm sorry." he said, looking down at her sadly. "I thought it was funny, but not anymore." Not now that she was hurt. Kioh staggered to his feet with her in his arms. He began to walk across the floor, leaving the shop. He stepped outside, and looked up at the sky. Carefully, he concentrated. His eyes closed, and he focused on her weak strength and an object far above the clouds. A star disappeared from the heavens, its energy flowing to her.

He was carrying her. Her head fell against his chest, almost to tired for her to move. It took so much energy to fold her arms over her chest to keep them from flailing around him limply. At once she felt strength return to her, more than she could carry. When she looked up she could see as the star dissapeared and she looked to the boy. How could he have been powerful to reach the stars? She knew all to well that distance effected the energy required to use the spell. It takes more energy to lift a stone a mile in the air from an inch away then to raise the same stone an inch from a mile away. "How did you do that?"

Kioh smiled at her. He wanted to say, I love you, but thought that it might make her upset again. It was the answer to her question though. He had been able to do that because he loved her. "Magic." he shrugged, still smiling at her. "Are you alright now?" he asked. "I'm sorry I played that joke." Kioh said, apologizing again. He walked back into the bakery and pulled her chair out for her as he had before.

"I'll be alright," She sighed not understanding his answer. Of course it was magic, what else could it be. But how had he found the strength to do it. No one was that powerful. "Just don't do it again." She took her chair and looked at her food. She really wasn't hungry anymore after that, even if the food was safe. But she took a bite anyway, even if it was small.

Kioh sat down and ate a perogie, very hungry after that. "These are good." he said after he had swallowed, but he couldn't talk as he placed another bite into his mouth. He looked like a chipmunk. But he had never tasted anything so good before. They didn't have these in the elven world. Kioh licked his lips, and took a drink of his water.

"They aren't bad," She said putting another piece in her mouth, "The one master made were better though."

"We really have these in our lands?" Kioh asked in amazement and disbelief. "I've never seen them there before. Or heard of them." he wondered, if these perogies tasted so good, what they might be like if they were made by elves. Kioh ate another potato-and-cheese-filled pasta shell, enjoying the warm taste on his tongue.

"No, I don't think you did. I was separated from the rest of you after my parents died and Master Sortin took me in. We wandered all across Narnia as he taught me wand-wielding magic. The magic is so different than ours using sometimes only a single word to make it work. The more advanced of us can just think of a place and be there in seconds. But elf magic the words have to be thought without a single distraction, usually resulting in needing to speak the language. But every spell takes energy. It's not like that with wand-wielding. I could throw spells at you all day, and never grow tired. That's how master would make them. He had found the right spell and they just came out of nowhere, perfect and warm."

"That's amazing." Kioh said, ceasing his eating. He felt full. He had eaten too fast. He wondered what it would be like to travel all across Narnia. Even in his many years as an elf, Kioh had not been all over Narnia. Most of his life was in his town, training to be what he was now. A warrior. And a skilled one at that. "When do we make your wand?" he asked. The man knew that it would probably be after she was finished eating, he would pay the baker and they would head outside to wherever it was that she wanted the wand to be sung. But it was still good to ask, knowing that using all of her strength in that healing spell would have left her tired. But she had the energy of a star now, so perhaps she would still allow them to sing the wand tonight.
