The needle passed through her skin giving pain to her already sore body. Her magic could have healed it in an instant, but without her wand she was helpless, her elven magic was not strong enough to use it without killing her. Her hands tightened into fists as her body grew hard and tence, only worsening her pain, yet she could not relaz as they pierced her with their tiny swords leaving their legacy of thread behind them. Out of instinct she took Caspian's hand and squezzed it tightly and drawing strength from him. It was not to hurt him, simply to ensure she survived. When she accesed his energy she found vast amounts stored within him, more so than she had seen in a human in all her days. He would probably be very powerful in the ways of magic, if only he were properly trained. The magic may have come from his demon mother, a telltale sign of his potential powers as a changeling, but there was no way to be certain until he actualy became another being or he healed from an injury at an extremely fast rate. But for the time being she could only look up at him in awe. In the way of magic he was far supperior to her.

Caspian held her hand tightly, watching. This was all his fault. But Susan had gone through the same pain, and his guilt left. They really were even. He felt her gaze upon him, and could not look down at her. It made him feel weird. The woman who was stitching her finished, and sighed at her work. "There." she said. "All better. Don't let yourself move too much, or it could tear." she warned. Caspian knew this was true. It had happened to his wife. "You should be able to drink water in half an hour." said the nurse, and got a wet towel and began to wipe the blood off of the skin on Katrina's belly. Caspian looked at the wound. Telmar really was advanced in their medical skills, he thought to himself. The wound wasn't a fraction of what it had been before they came.
"It looks better." commented the King. The nurse took this as a compliment and dipped her head.

She felt her shame as he looked away and her pain passed. She did not let go of his hand for it was all she had of him for herself, even for this short moment. The softness in his voice, the tenderness of his touch, the strength behind his blade, it was all for Susan now. She shook away such thoughts for now. There was no need for them. Instead she focused her curiousity elsewhere. "I can sense much energy within you," She said, "If you knew our elven language you would be stronger than me at magic, except for in wand-wielding but I would be more than glad to teach you. I can only think such power can come from your mother. Do you know who, or rather, what, she is?"

"My mother is Firemane." he answerd. "A demon. A shapeshifter." Caspian said. "I'd be happy to have you teach me wand magic," he started, "But I haven't a wand, nor the time to sing one. We are in the middle of a war." he reminded her. "But thanks anyway. Maybe after it has past, unless they sell wands pre-made in the elven villages." Caspian doubted it. The way she spoke of wands, she and her master were the only two weilders, and you had to sing for years to get your wand to come from a tree.

"I would have wanted to teach you, but you're a human and your life would end before you even had your wand fully sung, providing you can even get the trees to obey your command and give you the wand to begin with. It took me generations just to even be at the level where I can begin to sing, much less master using it, a skill I haven't gotten yet." She stopped as she thought of his mother, her closest friend. "She was a demon, a mate to the lord of the Firefields, the land I tried to reach. I intend to help her soon, but for now I have to sort things in my head. But you, you seem to have taken after her. I can't imagine any other reason for you to have such energy stored inside you. Her changeling blood must flow within you and you might have some of her power. There is no true way to prove this unless you were to transform, but I wouldn't try it until you are sure of what you can do or you could easily kill yourself."

"But even if I could transform, I don't know how." Caspian said. It was good that Katrina was going to help save his mother. Susan and Caspian and all of Narnia were hoping to save her. They could always use another person. He couldn't help but let his mind wonder what had really happened to make her love him once she left. She claimed that she was protected from spirits and magic and things, but what if her memories had been messed with? It would explain why she thought that she was protected from everything. It could explain why she was so in love with him and remembered all these things that never happened. Or maybe she had had a bad fall? But her head didn't have any scars or damage that he could see. He looked at her curiosly, trying to figure it out.

"When we save her she will teach you." She answered for the captured demon. She had known her well enough to give a reliable answer, though the others may not believe it. "But first we must destory the demon lord that holds her. Do not try to change unless it is more than nessary. Protecting Susan is not absolute nessisity, be sure to know it. I can understand that you believe that she cannot live without you, and you not without her. But do not force upon her the pain of living without love, for it is not life at all. It is best for her, if it is what pleases you, that she dies."

This wasn't the first time that Caspian had heard this. He had heard it from Susan herself, Cotnar, and Katrina. But he couldn't let her die. "I can't let her perish." he said. "I love her. She is my wife and friend." Caspian didn't want to think of Susan being dead. But he knew that she was probably being tortured in that home with Lamont, or maybe she was happy there. Either way, Caspian didn't like it. He had to save her from Lamont sooner or later. But, he feared, what if she doesn't want to come back? He didn't want to think about it. Caspian could never love anyone but her. And if she should choose Lamont over him, he would surely live a life of misery. Perhaps he might go to England and sign up for the military there, where he would be shot in their World War. That wouldn't be so bad. Not if Susan didn't love him. But she loved Caspian, and he knew it. What was he really worrying about? "And she loves me too." he said, though it was more to assure himself than anything else. He didn't like talking about this. "What do you want to search my mind for?" Caspian asked, changing the subject.

"I already know now that there is plenty of energy inside you making you more of a target for anyone who may want to harness your power for their own uses. But What I am searching for is some dark magic of some kind, something that may have burrowed into your mind while you slept and tampered with your memory and erasing or changeing them. I know what we did, and I know you think I'm insane for bringing up things you cannot remember, but it is true. When I find what I'm looking for then you'll remember everything. Do you want it done now?"

Caspian wondered, a little afraid. What if there really was a dark magic that had changed his memories? Would he still be able to love Susan? The King never wanted to stop loving her. Ever. He would wait for her to come back around. To love him again. They would be a family again. She would live with him, not his cousin, and they would grow old and die together. Together, they would win this war. Caspian didn't want this all to end. But then again, what if there wasn't a magic? What if all of this proved that Katrina was the one with the switched memories? He thought harder. "I want to talk it over with Susan first." he said. "We are a team. We decide things together." Caspian told her.

Katrina nodded, a little sad but able to accept it. She had looked forward to searching his mind for anything related to her, to try to make him remember how he loved her. But if he waited for Susan she may never agree to it. She might understand that by Freeing him from a demon's spell he could leave her. It wasn't likely, but possible. "When will Susan come?" She asked "The sooner it is done the sooner you can be freed assuming something is actualy inside you. Once I find it I will take some time to drive it out."

Caspian wondered if he even had to be freed. What if there wasn't a magic? But if there was, did he really want it to leave? He wasn't sure. He wanted to love Susan forever, with nothing standing in between them. Sure, there was some stuff between them now, like the fact that she was loving his cousin and debating upon leaving him, but they could get past that eventually. They could still be a family. Caspian was in love with her, and didn't want to lose her. Even if he was under a spell. But on the other hand, what if he really was in love with Katrina? Scary thought, being in love with his past babysitter and friend, but what if he was? Would he still be able to love Susan? Or worse, if being freed from the spell meant he had feelings for Katrina, would Caspian have to choose? Of course, he didn't have feelings at all for her now, but what if he would? This was all so confusing. It would be best to speak with Susan first. "I don't know when I'll see her next." he said. "Perhaps in a few days, or few weeks. Really, I don't have a clue." he answered. Caspian felt confused. He didn't know how Susan could possibly like being fought over. The voice must have been lying, because Caspian hated it. But who knows, if the voice was somehow correct, then maybe being fought over would bring Susan back to him. And now, Caspian couldn't help but ask Katrina, "Don't you think you're a little old for me? -I mean, you're a young elf, but you are lifetimes older than I as far as humans go. I could be like, your great-great-great-great grandson, if you were human."

"could you send for you, the faster this is done the better it is for all of us and, perhaps, Narnia." She said touching her wound lightly. Had it not been for her pain concerning Caspian she never would have given it to herself. It would have given her endless shame among her people. His answer to her coment worried her. He had seen first hand what the effects of rejected or denied love grants. She had risen a blade to herself and still he was willing to condem Susan to such suffering and what ultimately will be her death. She would speak with him later on this matter, but not now. "What is age to an immortal?" She answered his question with another. "Forever I will be no older than you, no mater what happens to either."

"I couldn't send for her." Caspian said sadly. Lamont moves so frequently, we will never know where he is at one time or the other." he answered. "How could it be better for Narnia?" he asked, wondering what his Kingdom might have to gain from it. Then he asked another question, "Does it hurt?" he nodded towards her wound. His voice didn't hold the loving concern of a husband. Just a curiosity.

"If something is in you, altering your throughts, you would be rid of it and would be able to make choices of your own will. Unless you are actualy a fool who was only a good leader because of the influence of the demon's that controls you now. But nothing may not have happened and life will continue as normal." He nodded and asked her of her wound and she looked to it for s moment. "Not as much," She replied, "But I still wish it had taken me."
