"You get the boy." Damian whispered into her ear. "I'll take care of these two." And with that, he flew off, hoping that she would obey his command. He flew directly before the men's faces, letting smoke run off his body and fill their lungs. They choked and sputtered. A gruesome smirk came to Damian's face. The smoke was his own. He had control over it. And it turned to fire, spreading from their lungs and turning their bodies to ash within seconds. The horses reared and turned, fleeing back through the forest and into the streets of the town. Damian ignored them and flew to find Lennia.

Len nodded and hurried to Galen. He was slightly scared but otherwise alright. She looked around to see Damian coming towards them. "I want you to stay her a bit longer. Unfortunately we need to make sure the rest of the village is alright" She said looking at Damian. She really didn't want to go back but she had to.

"I'm coming with you." he said with a wink. "And you can't stop me." and with that, he became heat again. He became small, and fitting himself into her pocket and looking out at the world. Everything seemed so much bigger, being so small. He felt like a little tiny elf trapped in a net. His feet just barely reached the bottom of her pocket. His hand reached up and tickled her side, letting her know it was just him.

Len sighed but let him stay in her pocket. She hurried off the the village still trying to figure out why. There was smoke every where and there were still a couple raiders. They were fight some of the men in the village. Len walked up to them and forced them to the ground before tying them to a tree. The men of the village started to clean up and put out the fires except for the old man, Rick and his father. They were discussing what to do with the raiders. Len sighed and looked the raiders in the face watching them carefully. "Who do you work for?" She asked. The one raider spat at her feet while the other looked away. Len shook her head and took out her dagger. She slowly cut the man that spat at her in the arm careful not to cut the artery but to make him feel pain. "Now lets try that again" The other saw the blood and looked at Len with scared eyes. "We were sent by our leader. He controls the raiders of this part of the land" Len sighed with relief. They weren't real enemies. Just a bunch of stupid men. She released them and watched as they ran off into the woods. If they were smart then they wouldn't come back but knowing a group like that they would and in greater numbers.
"What did you do! They will come back and slaughter us all. Including you and your nephew" The old man half shouted. Rick tried to take the blade from her hand. She slipped from his grasp easily. "They aren't a threat. If they come back then they come back. You are the ones who should organize yourselves better" She turned her back on the men just as she had done so many years ago. They were clueless and would never know who she was unless she told them.

Damian stayed in her pocket, looking out at the world around him. He didn't like that Rick fellow, or his father, or that Nancy gal. They reminded him of stuck up greyhounds that tipped their noses high. He had to suppress a laugh. He'd gladly burn their tails any day.
But his eyes wandered back to Len's mother. How did she end up with such a bastardly man? Damian hadn't even met the guy, but he already knew all about him by his friend's anger and the way that he didn't want to get his hands dirty. He climbed up from her pocket to her elbow, and then made his way up her arm to sit on her shoulder. He liked being small. "Go talk to your mother." he whispered to her. He wanted to meet her.

Len really didn't want to but she also didn't want to be around the men anymore. She sighed to herself wondering what she would say. She came up to the woman who was skinny with light red-blond hair with gray streaks. She looked weak and tiered. "So how often does the village get raided?" Len asked, it was the only thing that came to mind. "Every month. They take supplies and then leave. We usually can keep up with their demands but this time they wanted something we couldn't give on time. We were going to give it to them today but then this happened" The woman said waving her arms around at the mess. "Well that's too bad. It looks as if you have no idea how to defend yourselves" It was harsh but true. "You look familiar. Do I know you?" Her mother stated getting a better look at Len. "Do you?" Len replied.

Damian observed the older woman. She looked like Len, but her spirit was much different, he could tell. It seemed mixed to him. Kind, yet judging. He didn't know what to think of the woman. She seemed nice enough now, among her own people. But she had sent her own daughter away all those years ago, knowing full well that Len could have died. Five years old. Could have been taken into slavery or killed by wolves. Did she care? No. But maybe with years came wisdom. It was too soon to tell. Would Len give her another chance? Or would the entire village turn on her again? Damian hoped that things went well for his friend, but he would be the first one to defend her if things went wrong. "I think she recognizes you." he whispered.

Len and her mother looked each other in the eye for a moment. Len could sense tension building as her mother was trying to figure out who she was. She turned her head to the sound of screaming and horse hooves. Not again she said to herself. Three raiders come out of the woods grinning from ear to ear. "Give us what we want and you can have this child back" One shouted. One of the others held up Galen who was screaming for the man to put him down. He saw Len and started to scream for her. The man who made the announcement looked over to Len. "So what will it be?" Len smiled and walked over to the men. "How about this. Let the boy go and you might live" She stated with fire in her voice. The man only laughed. "I hope I don't regret this" Len whispered more to Damian and herself. She stoop on her tiptoes and grabbed the man by the collar of his shirt. "Wrong answer" She said. Ice started to form over the man's skin then body. He screamed as his body slowly froze. He fell from his horse and all that was left was a bunch of shattered ice that looked like broken glass. The other two starred in disbelief. The one holding onto Galen gave the child to Len then both ran.
"Lennia?" Her mother whispered. Len nodded and walked in the direction towards the house she was staying in. "Wait one second. Lennia, the witch girl that was banned ten years ago? You should be dead. There is no way a misfit could ever be accepted anywhere. That must be why you came back hum? Because everyone else threw you out?" Rick said laughing. Len wanted to punch teh boy in the face but restrained from doing it. "What are they talking about? We like you" Galen said in his childish voice. "I know" Len replied picking up the child.

That was enough for Damian. He jumped from her shoulder, becoming his full height. "That's not true." he snapped at him. "Len is my friend, and I'm proud to call her so." Damian stood tall over Rick, chest pressed out, just daring him to argue. But then he relaxed. He would follow Lennia's lead and avoid all fighting. "She survived, no thanks to you." he told them all. "And you know what? She's turned out just fine, with no help from the mother who sent her away." he said, looking up at the old woman. But not with accusation. Just simple fact. He took Len by the shoulders and turned her around to face the crowd of people. "She fits in just fine with Narnia, and with the Fire Spirits. She's saved lives, you know. Including the life of this boy." Damian extended a hand to Galen, who slapped it like a high-five. "She's a wonderful person. And if you are still too foolish not to accept her, that's your loss. Look at yourself, Rick." his gaze glared at the man. "She, a woman, single-handedly ridded you all of the burden of three more raiders. That's more than I can say for you, who didn't even stir a finger." he turned back to the rest of the town. "And all of you, see how she jumped to your aid, the very people who sent her away into the cold world so young, knowing very well the dangers of death. And she helped you all, just now. If that doesn't show character, I don't know what does."

Len was speechless. She didn't expect Damian to say anything let alone everything he had said. She was used to people turning their backs on her and just leaving her in the dark. It was nice to, for once, have someone stand up for you. It really meant a lot to her. "Thanks" She whispered. Rick looked at them with confusion in his eyes. He was used to wining and being right, and now he lost big time. "What Rick, can't stand up to someone once you've lost?" She stated.

"Your welcome." he whispered back to Len. He patted her once on the back and lead her up to her mother. He wanted to see what the woman had to say to her daughter that she hadn't seen in ten years. He stood there, just waiting. It would take courage for Len's mother to speak first, and Damian wanted to see if she had it in her. He scooped Galen up out of his friend's arms, allowing her freedom while she talked with the one whom she hadn't seen for so long. He set Galen on top of his shoulders, so that his hands might be free as well. The boy wrapped his arms around Damian's head, looking at all the other children who disappeared into their homes and now watched from the windows.

Len stood in silence waiting for someone to break the tension between the family. Len was about to walk off when her mother spoke. It was really soft and Len could just make it out. "I am truly sorry for giving you up those years ago. I was scared. I didn't know what to do with you. The magic came from your fathers side and he died before you were born. This village doesn't take well to change or to anything that is different and you were" Len listened it made sense. At least her mother regretted what she did. "Don;t worry about it too much. I am surprisingly glad I was banished. Otherwise I wouldn't have ended up in Narnia where I have found a great home" She said. Her mother smiled as if a weight had been lifted from her shoulders.

Damian beamed, happy for her. For them both. He looked around, and, slowly but surely, the rest of the town began to step forward. Shame lie on all of their faces, and they approached Lennia with heavy hearts. Mumbled apologies came forth from the crowd, and only Rick and his family stayed behind. "What's wrong, Rick?" Damian asked, approaching him now. "And you, Nancy? That could have been your child in the raiders arms, you know." he said, nodding to the stupid little youth that hadn't gone indoors. "And they could have killed him, with your slow reactions, Rick." Damian told him. "I suggest you make what little of a man of yourself that you can still accomplish and go and thank that little lady over there." The man glanced up at Damian, his feet unmoving. "Come now, both of you. If Lennia hadn't come this day, that would have been your little boy. And if she hadn't shown them what happens to raiders who touch the children, your child would be next. But, thanks to her, he's safe now. Come, show a little remorse." Rick was stubborn, but Nancy seemed swayed. She pulled her husband by the arm, and slowly, they approached Lennia with the same shame as everyone else. Damian stood back, away from the crowd, watching with a smile on his face. It was good for Len to finally get the respect that she deserved.
Little was he suspecting when someone tapped his shoulder. He turned to see the elder standing there. The same man that had so graciously shown Lennia and Galen to their house and town. "Who are you, boy?" he asked.
Damian was quiet for a moment, wondering if he should answer. The town wasn't very open to outsiders, Len had said. True, they seemed to accept her back again, but she really was of the village. But for Damian, even to give his name would be to give away that he was a Fire Spirit. Firetongue. "Um..." He glanced nervously to Lennia, whom was now away from him and swarmed with people and apologies. He caught her eyes for only a moment before someone stepped in his view, blocking her again. He hoped that she had seen him, too.
He hated looking back at the old man, whom stared back with expectation in his eyes. "Well? Who are you? Come on, lad, speak up!"

Len caught Damian's eyes. She knew how unwelcoming these people could be. She still felt like an outsider even though they now accept her. That was only because she saved them, and so did Damian. The villagers should know who her friends were even if they weren't human. Len smiled and walked up next to Damian. She smiled at him nodding her head saying that he could tell them the truth. She didn't care anymore how they would react, he was her friend and maybe more. It wouldn't matter anyway since she wasn't staying.

Damian sighed in relief when he saw Lennia coming. Her smile reassured him. "My name is Damian Firetongue." he said. "Fire Spirit and proud soldier of the Narnian army, at your service." he gave a little chuckle, trying to lighten things up a bit. "Pleased to meet your acquaintance."
Whispers arose among the crowd. "Fire Spirit?" They all questioned one another. The elder simply stared. "How did you get into our village?" he asked, suspiciously.
"Come on! I'm not bad." he said, his face frowning. Damian looked down at his body, and back at them. How different was he? He saw two hands and two feet, just like them. Two arms and two legs, as they had. He knew he had a face, even if he didn't look in the mirror all that often. He stood taller, proud. "I can prove it." he said, and then his smile returned. "I'm fun, really I am. Just wait till nightfall." Then he'd give them all a show, and it wasn't really that far off.
The elder's question came, and he pondered how to word it. He couldn't say that he followed Lennia. It would make him look like a stalker or something. He couldn't say that he snuck in. It would make him look like a trespasser. So he thought a while before answering. "Just as you would enter." he said. "I walked." Well, technically he flew, but, tomato-tomatto.
The elder gave a huff of unsatisfaction, but quieted his questions.
As night came, Damian looked to the skies. Darkness overcame the village, punctured only be the light of the lanterns. He looked at Lennia and gave her a smile. She had only seen the blacksmith perform something close to what Damian was about to do. He made his way to the center of the street and waited.
