"Two reasons," She answered, "What is in the past cannot be changed and because what is to come can be changed. yes, what happened was wrong. You let your emotions control you for the worst but you won't ever let it happen again. And your heart attack can't be controled, no one can control it. Even if it were to happen to me there would be no stopping it. But that dosen't mean for you to give up." She moved away, but not to far, and lifted his chin so he would see her. "Aslan thought you were fit to be a king otherwise he wouldn't have let you. Aslan thinks you are ready to be a father or he wouldn't give you a son. We're both scared that everything will go wrong. But this time we have to trust that he is right, that he knows what he's doing."

Caspian nodded, but he didn't put the crown back on his head. "Are you happy with our marriage?" he asked her. He needed to know. Needed to know that she was happy. He needed to hear her say it. But, on the other hand, he needed to hear the truth. She had, after all, cheated on him and then left with Lamont. Caspian had forgiven her for it, but he still needed to know where her heart was. Where her mind was. He had questions for her.

" I am," She told him knowing his thoughts, "You've been a better husband than I have ever hoped for. After all I've done to hurt you, you always have stayed with me and begged me to come back when I left. Keep in mind that anything I have done with Lamont I regret. Narnia loves you, Galen loves you, he still knows you as his father from when you talked to him before he was born, and I love you more than everyone combined."

"I love you more." he said to Susan. But he had another question. "Do you... when you and Lamont.... do you... Do you see my face, too?" Caspian asked her. "Do you see my face, as clearly as you see his?"

"Sometimes," She answered sadly. She hated the question and the answer. "When he comes the only thing I know is fear. I can't think of anything happy that has ever happened, only the bad and the horrible things that could come from everything he does. Most of the times I see your face is images from my nightmares. But sometimes, for some reason I don't know, I do see you holding me. I do, very rarely, and that, maybe only that, makes it so I can keep going."

"Oh." said Caspian. He felt blue. No -More than blue. He felt disappointed. "Okay." The man reached out to her, brushing her face lightly with his fingertips. "But you do know that I'd never hurt you. You don't need to nightmare about me." he promised. Caspian would rather have died than to see her hurt. This he had told her on many occasions. The King rose to his feet, sitting down beside her. "Are you still angry with me?" Caspian asked her.

Susan nodded sadly knowing her words had hurt him. But she couldn't control her dreams, they just came regardeless of what she wanted. No matter what she tried they were always there to haunt her. Still hateing the answers he forced her to give simpy by asking her head dropped but she tried to help make the truth hurt less by leaning against his chest. "I'll always wish you had made a better choice. I'll always wish you listened to me. And, even if I don't realy want it, that little part of me that acts before I want it to will always tell me that I cannot trust your judgement when it comes to protecting me and our children. I don't want it to be this way."

The corners of his mouth fell into a frown. "I wish I had listened, too." he said truthfully. Then he touched her chin, tilting her head up gently so that he could look straight at her. "I will always protect you and our children. Only when my body is lifeless and my soul has gone will I ever stop, and even then, Aslan will have to hold me back himself to keep me from crawling out of the gates of His Country to protect you in anyway that I possibly could." Caspian put his arm around her and kissed her cheek. "Please, Susan, don't be this way." he begged. "I made one mistake." he said. "One. Don't hold it against me forever. I am as human as you are. There are going to be mistakes from both of us. It's who we are. But please, Darling please," Caspian pleaded, "Don't ever doubt me in the protection of my family. I would be dead right now if I didn't have you. I would have let go. I would be gone if I didn't have you to protect. Baby, please, I'm begging you. Don't doubt me."

"I never said I doubted you, I just don't trust your method." But she wouldn't say anymore about Katrina. He had already suffered enough from his mistake. "I know you messed up, alot less than I have, but you still stay with me and love me. Who am I to turn you away? I could never, never, never blame everything on one mistake. It's done, past, and over. I know we can never pretend it never happened. The boy who came will come after us, probably trying to avenge his lover's suffering. But we don't have to keep looking at it right?" she nuzzled against his chest like a playful puppy who wanted to be pet before kissing his neck. "I love you."

"Methods can be changed." he defended. "But first and foremost, I will do what protects you. No matter what that is. But methods can be changed. I'll even apologize to her if it makes you happy." He hoped that she might have liked to hear that. But one question remained in his mind. Katrina had taken part in Susan's murder. What would happen now, that she still lived? Would she go after his wife again? Caspian let it go, deciding to talk about it later as he stroked the top of her head. "I love you more." he said, smiling brightly as she kissed him. "But I want you to be safe. If I have to kill someone to ensure that, I will. If I don't, I won't."

"No," She covered his lips with two fingers. "I let you get away with it before, but you stole my words and I want it back this time." She wanted their fight to end.

"I will not just give them back to you." he said, smiling beneath her fingers. "You'll have to fight for them." Caspian's voice was but a whisper now. "You have to make a promise if you want your words back. You must promise me to trust me. To trust me and my judgment. If I promise to listen to you and what you have to say from now on, you must promise to trust my decisions. Our decisions." he grinned as he whispered the last bit, knowing that she would like it.

"I don't know," She said as if she was actualy weighing the two options. "What if I want them back first. As a down payment. What if I don't do anything until I have it." she turned away from him and folded her arms over her chest.

"You can have them now, because I can take them away again with four words." he whispered as he crept up behind her and then suddenly embraced her in a playful bear hug, twisting his head around to meet hers. But he didn't kiss her just yet. "You have to promise." he said. "You'll trust our decisions if I give you your words back."

When he held her she felt as though all she had done to tear her away from him had dissapeared. She felt her hand touch the side of his face expecting what he was to give her, and her wanting more. But when he didn't, going back to the fight she had tried to erase, she stopped. "So long as what you say is rational, I promise."
