Caspian looked down at Susan. He actually couldn't put his finger on it this time. Susan had screamed for many things. When her son was killed, when she was having nightmares, or when the Dark Ilse voice became too much. Caspian looked at Susan questioningly, hoping that she might tell him why his mother was screaming. He didn't want to ask Cotnar this time, and sound foolish.

Susan only stared trying to find the cause. In the past few days she had screamed more than enough times. She had screamed when her child was killed, but the monster of a demon wouldn't care since she had already killed one of her own. When Caspian beat her in her dreams, but her mate was controling and she probably had expeirenced this before anyway, even if he wasn't sitting in front of her. She screamed when she attacked Cotnar for killing Lucy and when she saw her younger sister, but again the impression of the monster the demon was painting for her told her that she cared not for the death of family or loved ones. It left only one option left for her, the only time she could scream loud enough to 'shake the stars.' "Could she be having another child?"

"Clever girl," he said looking at her. There was no question at why the boy liked her, she was just barely more than beauty though in that she had plenty. Should she be a demon she would be well placed among the Waiters. "Of course, nothing brings more pain." He raised his nose along with his wings before bringing them down wondering why he could not hear her. He took to the window and soared beyond it muttering, "Something has gone wrong though."

"Another one?" Caspian asked. His voice was full of disbelief. Hadn't they enough children? Especially if they didn't love their babies, surely they had had enough. Caspian suddenly felt pitty for the pour soul that was probably being brought into the world now. It didn't know yet what a cruel life it was about to recieve. "What's gone wrong?" he asked.

Something wrong. She had gone through the trouble of giving birth, she knew the pain of it. If something wnt wrong and she lived it left her with hours upon hours of pain and torture. "We have to help her."

He flew hard and fast, straining his wings for any speed he could coax out of them. While extended the triangle-like shape of his head cut the air like a spear and his snake-dragon body sailed easily through. He went far to the west, to what was close to the borders of the human-lands, a place they called the cauldron pool. The land recieved it's name through the way a waterfall crashed into a pool from hundreds of feet below causing the water below to churn and bubble as though it truly were a witch's cauldron. The beast spent no time waiting to watch the water fall and spray it's mist and cast rainbows over the air. He bounded behind it to a hidden alcove where he could hear the fierce growls of his mate. She lay on her side panting and growling. every blood red hair on her skin stood on end as her body was racked with the pain of the beast that tried to escape within her. He licked varying colors of her mane that, when moved, danced like fire. As his tongue met skin she growled much fiercer and snapped at him, her jaws clicking loudly as they closed inches in front of his own chimera lion nose. "You'll not touch." She growled but he only licked her again. "You know me better." He told her, "I'll not slay them unless I have reason." Her only response was a weak, half-hearted snarl. She focused more on the beast inside her now and Cotnar only watched seeing little need to interfere or try to comfort her. She could give birth just like every other time. He would watch to see what had kept her roars silent but do nothing more.

Susan could wait no longer for Caspian's response. If she could do anything, no matter who she was, she would. She ran to the stables and ignored all who were there save for the horses. She chose the one she wanted, Depes, a stallion bred for generations for speed and endurance. She would not take the time to load his saddle or his bridal. She stroked the velvet of his nose, showing herself as a friend, and simply asked him to follow walking beside him with her hand on his neck. When she was clear of the castle wall she pulled herself up to mount. Once she was on she almost slid off. The ground below her window was empty, her child was gone. His body stolen by the demon no doubt. Then she dug in her heels and rode as fast as she could, following the demon's trail, and knowing Caspian would follow.

Caspian ran after, climbing aboard his black stallion and galloping off with her. At first, he wanted to gallop as far away as possible from Lamont and the demon. But he knew that he couldn't. Susan wouldn't follow him if he did. She wanted to help his mother. The horses followed the path the demon had taken by air. His stench was awful and easy to follow as it hung in the air. His nose crinkled in disgust. Caspian couldn't help but wonder if they ever bathed in the land of fire. But sure enough, it lead them into the waterfall. Caspian dismounted and ran up to Susan. He said nothing as he offered her a hand to help her get off the horse, but a smile was across his face (even if he thought that they would surely die this day). His wife was brave and gentle and always wanted to help. Even her enemies. As he looked up at her, his head turned as he heard a quiet roar of pain. This was definately the place.

The three of them had gone leaving him alone. With a growl he went to the window and watched the master as he soared farther and farther away until he could no longer be seen. It didn't matter. He knelt on the ground, concentrating his every thought and drawing his sword. "By fire's light, give me my right." He muttered the words and in an instant the land changed. No longer was he surrounded by the stone walls of the castle, but the stone walls of a cave. There was little light her and the roar of the waterfall was deafening. He stopped for a moment and saw the lion, though it was just barely in the light. "I am here grandmaster."

she smiled down at him and took his hand as she swung her leg over the horse's back and slid off landing only inches away from his chest. Any normal day she would've stayed there and held him around his neck, but the growl's from within the waterfalls called her. She had never known there was a hiding place in the falls before. She wondered how many of her enemies had taken refuge there over the years. She gave her previous husband a quick kiss knowing no one was here to force her away before leaving. She pat the horse's neck for a moment. He tossed his head, pawed the soil, and flared his nostrils at the sound of the demon before him. She knew the moment she left him he would flee to the safety of the stables. She started to go in but stopped short for a moment. She heard Lamon't voice inside. How was he able to get past them so fast? She was hoping to be in there alone, with just the demon and Caspian, but those hopes were destoried. Now she wasn't willing to go in alone and looked back at her Caspian.

Caspian smiled as he helped her down, and as she kissed him he only wanted all the more to get back on the horses and ride away with her to freedom. He followed her up to the falling water and took her hand. "Well, we're here anyway." he said. "We might as well go inside." He searched for a way to get in without getting wet, but there was none. So instead, he reached up into the water and let it flow over his hand, parting the vertical stream. "After you, kind Lady." he said, just as he had that morning that he proposed to her and they had together watched the sun rise.

She smiled unable to keep herself from it. "I know I told you to stop calling me that, my lord." She teased before stepping in front of him. His hand parted the water above her, but the mist still sprayed around her catching her clothes and hair like dew. Ignoring anything the people in the cave would say she kept one hand within Caspian's and, once she found the lion, but her hand on it's heaving side. The moment her fingers touched her skin a wave of pain passed over her enough to make her lose balance for a moment. "How long have you been like this?" She asked not truly expecting an answer. She couldn't afford to use her strength on things as simple as talking.

Caspian entered behind her, the cold water touching the bare skin of his chest and making him shiver. His cast, however, was thankfully still dry. "Mother?" he called for the first time in his life as he entered the cave. There he saw her, lying on her side in the same, if not greater, agony that Susan had been in many hours ago. Caspian put one hand on his mother, bravely stroking her nose and the space between her eyes. He was even couragous enough to run his fingers once through her mane. Susan was stroking her side, and Caspian looked for the first time into his mother's eyes. This was the first time that anyone had ever touched her kindly in years. Even if she couldn't feel love, she could still feel kindness. It was a rarity for her. "Caspian." she said his name. He almost jumped. She had recognized him. And, surprisingly, it didn't hold a hatred. Didn't she want to kill them? He had thought that she did. But he remembered what was said back in the medical chambers. She was a good actress. But what was going on right now was definately not acting. She was, or at least trying to, have a baby. Caspian didn't know what to do. It was obvious to anyone that something was wrong, but he didn't know what they could do to help her. "What's wrong?" he asked. This must have been one of the strangest moments of his life. Caspian looked to Susan, seeking an answer from either her or his mother.

She lifted her head for a moment only to let it drop back down. Instinctivly her lips curled back in a snarel, but no sound came out. "I'm not entirely sure what has happened." She struggled to say, "But I can push the pain aside." Susan looked up at Caspian for only a moment. She seemed to like Caspian enough, even remembered him. Maybe the chance was still there, maybe she did want to be freed. "If there's a way to help you we'll do it." She told the lion taking her hand off her to sit by Caspian. "You've delivered a child before? You'r awfly young to be worrying about children at all." Susan looked away at the words knowing she meant no offence. "I've . . ." She struggled to find the right words, "had a child before, but nothing more." The lion nodded and thought for a moment, her mane flickering as its namesake. "You're hand put it back," She ordered and Susan obeyed. The moment her fngers touched again pain washed over herm even more so this time. She lost her breath, her voice, her sight as everything blurred around her. Her body would no longer balance itself as she sat beside the demon and she fell on her side with her hand still touching. She tried to pull herself away, but could not. As long as she was connected she would continue to lose strength and soon she would die. She tried to scream for Caspian but no words came out. Darkness was comming.

"Susan!" Caspian yelled. Please, not again. his mind was frantic. Please, dear God, not again. he pulled her away from his mother and held his wife in his one arm, his casted hand touching her face softly. The creature moaned as if it was disappointed that he had stopped combing her mane, but Caspian only quietly told it to be patient. His fingers tapped Susan's cheek gently, urging her to stay awake. "Susan?" he asked, his voice full of worry.
