At the age of five, Melodia had had to watch from a distance as her parents were killed by the White Witch. As it turned out, the White Witch was still in Narnia and walking free. Only Aslan would ever be abe to explain to Melodia why this was so. Since that time, Melodia had been raised by her grandmother, who was known among her people as the Wise Old Sea Woman. Melodia swam through the cold, clear waters of the sea, headed toward the Narnian River. She had a very clear plan in her head about where to start her journey on land. So that not many people would recognize her from the sea, she was headed up through the river to start her journey at a point inland. In this way she would ensure that nobody would truly be able to guess the origin of her birth unless she herself divulged its secret. Sighing as the water surrounded her body with it's gentle embrace, she continued to swim. Her long, lean body easily slipping through the currents and past the small undertows. She'd lived in the waters of the sea and river all of her life and knew them well. That was why she was able to swim through it so easily. The fact that she was indeed a Water Nymph made it doubley so as she had powers over the waters around her. As she swam up the canal and into the river, away from the sea, Melodia made her body like the water itself was, clear and transparent. She didn't need the White Witch detecting her since she was coming inland to gain both the knowledge and truth about herself and why her family had been cursed long ago.
All around her, Melodia could feel the soft flowing movements of the fish, and she could see them as well. The many kinds of fish in Narnia ever seemed to stop fascinating her with their colors. Reds, blues, golds, pinks, oranges, greens, and even some delightful small purple ones. She knew that each kind of fish had name for its own kind, but then each fish also had a name unto itself. Sighing, she longed for more than life in the water, she wanted to know how it was to be on land.
Swimming past a few schools of fish, Melodia watched the way they traveled in groups like a family. Each one acting in perfect harmony with the others. A family, Melodia's family had been taken from her long ago, and she planned to get revenge on the White Witch for having those dreaded henchmen of hers kill them. Picking up the speed at which she swam, Melodia finally decided on a destination where her journey could begin, Lantern Waste. She felt as if there was some special importance that she start her journey there, she could feel something inside, calling her to it. Easily making her way through the small ripples and streams to get to Lantern Waste, Melodia was glad when she finally arrived at the spot. 'Yes, there is something special here' she said to herself as she remained invisible, looking at the land before her. 'It still calls me..'
Making her way to the land, Melodia made herself visible again. Her long, lean, naked body dripping with the water of the river as she slowly made her way onto the land she'd dreamed about for so long. The feeling beneath her feet was strange, as if it was hard yet fertile, nurturing yet unyielding. Did the earth here like in all the other places grow beautiful flowers and food like her grandmother had told her in the Fairy Tales she'd been told as a young Water Nymph? Blinking a few times, she wondered if it was true, all those Fairy Tales. Could they be true? Blinking again, she shivered. She'd never been on land before and she wasn't used to the firmness of the ground beneath her feet. All her life she'd been in the water with the freedom and fluidity of movement that only those bon of the water could enjoy and experience. But now she felt so solid, and mostly limited in her movements. While still strong and agile, Melodia's determination was not something to be taken lightly. She shivered as the breeze caressed her bare skin. The closest she'd ever come to something like this was when the soft currents of the waters in the ocean moved over her body. But she had become accustomed to those. The winds, with the way they moved over her body made her blush. For some reason, it seemed as if the wind was playing with her. Smiling softly, she did her best to ignore the feeling of the wind on her body. The wind, she had been told, is something humans barely pay attention to unless it was causing them trouble. Melodia could still feel her soaking wet hair clinging to her back as she gathered her determination and walked inland, away from the water of the river and toward the famous lamp post. Walking through the trees, she could hear the tree spirits whispering, talkig about the strange girl who'd come from the water and how her body glittered with the mists of the river, like freshly fallen rain.
Somehow, Melodia knew where she was headed. She had to see the famous lantern for herself. She had been told it was a structure of steel that gave light to the darkness and wanted to see if it was true.
