It has been a few months since the four Pevensie children left Narnia, during which they helped Caspian X and their fellow Narnians defeat Miraz, and help Caspian X reclaim the throne, joining both Narnia and Telmar. When they went to leave Narnia, Aslan told Susan and Peter that they would never return again to Narnia. The children were devastated.
Back in England, both older Pevensie children are trying to let go of the fact that they can never return to their kingdom in Narnia. Both are dealing with it in an unhealthy way. Peter has changed immensly since returning. After their return, his temper shortened and he would lash out at his siblings causing many fights among the four. He has since calmed down and begins preparing to enter college. Susan has the hardest time forgetting her beloved Narnia, and she now is starting to deny it ever existed. She has become more reserved and not as out going as much as she used to be. She has basically withdrawn herself from the world, causing her siblings to worry about her as well as becoming depressed themselves by her actions.
Together, Peter, Edmund, and Lucy begin to figure out a way to cheer Susan up, to get her to realize that Narnia is more than just a "silly game they used to play". For their plan to work, they go back Professor Kirke's house, trying to make Susan see. Before they know it, they are back in the halls that they played in so many years ago. When they entered the house, they could feel the all-too-familiar feeling of magic. It drove Susan in first. They found the old room that used to hold the wardrobe.
Upon entering, their faces fell as they noticed that the wardrobe was no longer in the room. In it's place was a decorated mirror, when Lucy saw something in the mirror. As she approached, she was elated to see a lion head with wise eyes. As she moved to touch its reflection, Susan recognized the lion. Aslan. Susan opened her mouth to speak, but she was too late. Lucy touched the reflection and they saw a flash.
Lucy and Edmund are happy to be back in Narnia. Susan and Peter are confused though. They weren't supposed to come back to Narnia. Why were they brought back? The oldest Pevensies are both torn between different emotions, both elated to be back but both have the feeling as if something isn't right.
They find their way to Caspian's castle. A surprised, yet elated Caspian greets them and Caspian tells them Narnia's current state. They find out that three years have past since their last visit and that the King has had Cair Paravel rebuilt to its former glory, meaning that they old Kings and Queens of Narnia can stay in their home.
A lot can change in three years, and while most are for the good, it is impossible to not have the bad as well. Despite Caspian's leadership, uniting Telmar and Narnia as one people has been more difficult than thought to be. Some have even created groups against the King's accomplishments so far. To have support in their group, they have joined forces with the Calormenes to overtake both Narnia and Archenland...but that's not all. Miraz is at the head of it. He was so distraught about his defeat during the battle between High King Peter and himself that he decided to try taking over because Peter and the other Pevensies had left.
There is one more person to worry about: Miraz's son, Tristan Miraz. After his father's defeat, he was taken in, along with his mother, by the Narnians. Miraz's son has grown strong in three years. He loves his father, yet he was raised by Narnians. Which side will he choose? He is 12 years old now and has been trained to fight with a sword and how to horseback ride.
Narnia, Telmar, and its new King are in trouble and need the Pevensies' help. Will the group and the Calormenes back down and allow Caspian to rule freely? Which side will Tristan Miraz choose?
