Echoed Footfalls:
In a world where there are elves, dwarves, humans, summon spirits, and harpies. Summon spirits are the basic elemental essences (Fire, Water, Earth, Light, ect.) There are nine altogether since light happens to have two spirits, and they maintain the balance of nature. Also, the balance that they preserve helps to, in turn, preserve a giant tree. This tree is the source of mana (All life energy) So without it, everything would wither away and everyone would die.
Also, it is from your mana, or life energy, that you can draw spells. Very few are able to utilize thier mana however, humans especially.
Thus there are expheres, which help to bring out people's innate abilities and make them stronger when equipped with a key crest. However, there is a terrible secret behind these expheres, for they are dormant until they draw the life of a human.
Therefore a group of half-elves whom have been discriminated against, called the desians, run secret ranches in order to, as they put it, 'cultivate the pathetic humans.' It is extremely difficult to find where their ranches are, but there is one group of people known as the renegades hunting them down.
In the mean time, two nations, Tethe'alla and Sylverant, are at war. There is no apparent meaning to this, except for both are fighting for complete dominance of the Church of Martel, which is the dominant religeon across the entire continent. Thus, the Church of Martel is trying to become an independent organization free of politics. However, though both nations would have allowed this to happen, the high priestess of the Church of Martel was kidnapped by the desians for reasons yet unknown.
Now the new leader of the Church has sided with Tethe'alla, and Sylverant would do anything to gain the Church's influence back. In the background, working hard to serve their nations, are people with specially evolved expheres called Cruxious Crystals. With Cruxious Crystals people never age, and they can produce iridescent wings from their backs at will. They also get heaven-like powers. It is rumored that the leader of the renegades has one of these gems, although the eternal life is a hard burden to bear.
Therefore, at this point the conflicts have escalated to an all-time high. The leader of the Church of Martel, Ahva Lonesorrow, has no hope. Even if she does escape the desians, the leaders of the church have become corrupt and would not allow her to resume her position. Armies are gathering, and with the new war the renegades may be forced to abandon their desian hunting for a time and protect themselves from the conflict. Worst of all, there is a legend that the first time the ancient tree, the source of all mana, died, it was because there was a massive war.
Could the conflict have more serious repercussions than simply deaths on the battle field? Every step you make has an enormous affect on the world. Your footfalls are echoed. And those echoes may haunt you.
