Anna sat in her home, waiting for Nicole to come back. She didn't bother to pick up the mess that she had made, the scattered chairs and firewood and overturned tables and couches. It was fine just how it was. The gryffin would pick it all up later. What was important now was that she could at least talk to the child. And so the lion-bird sat by the entrance to the burrow, waiting. She could still remember Nicole's words, and they hurt her still. There was something that Anna had to share with her that no one else knew.

Nicole silently flew back. She didn't know what to expect. She felt bad for what she had said to Anna. She regreated it now. She shouldn't of been so mean. She had been very rude and she had really hurt her best friend. A lot had been going on but it was still no excuse. The sun shone down on her wings. She didn't know why but for some reason this time she took on the form of a phenix. She watched as the sun hit the flames on her wings. It was on of the prettiest things she had ever seen. It was amazing to her. Though when Nicole saw the burrow her old feelings came back. She really had upset not only Anna, but herself. She landed and transformed back. Standing just outside the burrow. To ashamed to go inside.

"I can smell you, Nicole. Come in." she said, her voice kind again, letting her know that she wasn't mad anymore. But sadness drenched every word. Anna sat there, her tail curled around her paws and lying limp and solemn. Her ears were down, drooping like dead flowers, to which her wings mirrored. Her eyes glanced up, waiting for sight of Nicole. She could sense the fear in the child, and rose to her feet. Anna climbed out of the burrow, and walked beside Nicole, helping her inside.

Nicole hated the sight of Anna. She had really hurt her and nicole knew it. She looked down as shewalked in side she saw the mess and grimanced. This was all her fault. She knew it was. She had made all this happen. She couldn't believe it. Nicole's heart was torn and tossed aside. It was full of misery and regreat. She couldn't even look at herself and now Nicole probably would of said she was just as bad as Lamont or even Contar.

"Here, sit down." Anna said, flipping the couch back over for her. The gryffin took a seat, leaving plenty of room for Nicole. When they were seated, Anna was quiet for a while. Then finally, she spoke, "I'm sorry." she said. That was all she said for right now. Words were waiting behind her beak, but Anna would get to them later in the conversation. She looked up at Nicole, wondering what she might say.

Nicole looked down when she sat. She couldn't look at Anna. Though when Anna appologized that tore her heart even more. How could Anna be sorry for something she had done? Nicole looked up tears streaming down her face. "How can you be sorry for something that someone else did? I am the one that should appologize. I tore your heart appart and you don't have to lie I can see it on your face.." Nicole said looking away.

"Yes you did." Anna said truthfully, agreeing with her. But then she brushed the tears from Nicole's face with her wing. "It's alright though." she gave her an encouraging smile, which quickly faded. "But I am sorry. I shouldn't have been so hard on you. It's just that, when I couldn't find you..." her voice trailed a little as she searched for her words. "Nicole, I thought that you were dead. Not being able to find you brought back memories to a part of my life that I don't want to happen to you. I thought that Andrew had broken his promise and come for you. I thought you were dead." Anna took a breath. "The reason I'm so protective over you, as you say, like a mother, is because I am one. Or at least I was." It was a long, sad story, and Anna was frowning again. She wondered if Nicole was even interested in hearing it. It would answer many of the child's questions.

Nicole glanced up at Anna. Anna had been woried and she only cared. That made Nicole feel even worse. Though what Anna said had a lot of truth in it. What she said was a very big possibility. In nicole's eyes Anna had seen more that she had ever thought. Though when anna spoke of being a mother Nicole looked up. "You were a ........" Nicole's eyes went wide. She had been so cruel Anna had lost something special. "I'm so sorry." nicole mustered. She couldn't believe this had happened. She didn't want to ask Anna to tell her about it if it would make her sad. She didn't want Anna anymore hurt than she already was.

"It's alright." Anna said. "If you want to know, it's okay." she told her, letting Nicole know that it was alright to ask. Anna didn't mind talking about it with her. It had been years ago. What was done was done. Anna almost wanted to share the story with her. Talking about it brought back memories, to the point where Anna could almost see the face of her child again. A face that was slipping away from her. Then Anna got an idea. She could actually see her child again, if she wanted to. Anna got up off the couch and trotted over to her bedside, pulled a box out of the corner, and took out the mirror that Nicole had given to her for Christmas. Anna came back to the couch and laid down again, the mirror between her paws.

Nicole glanced up as Anna trotted off then came back with the present she had given her for Christmas. "You plan on using the mirror." nicole said looking away. She still felt horrible about what she had done to Anna. "IF it doesn't bother you I would like to see. If it does I don't want to cause you anymore pain." she said looking up at Anna. Then before any thing else was said she went to anna and hugged her. Then on accident she touched the mirror with her foot. Instead of Anna's memory the two were plunged into Nicole's subconcious. Deep within her own mind. It was the worst day. The day Nicole had lost her family.

"I don't mind." she said, just before they were taken into a different world. Anna looked about, feeling the earth beneath her paws. She sniffed the air. "Where are we?" she asked. A foreboding feeling pitted in her stomach. It reached her nose through the very air that she breathed. Death loomed like a dark shadow, with no sun to vanquish it. Anna stuck close to Nicole. "This isn't my memory."

Nicole knew exactly were they were. She knew this memory all to well. But she only remembered peices of it. Nicole couldn't watch but she was forced to relive the memory. She watched her mother and father going about the house happily chatting or doing some wierd thing. Nicole almost smirked when the door opened. This was when the horror started. Andrew walked in but it wasn't her younger brother at all. His eyes were a dark red instead of their usual blue. Father noticed immediatly and stepped towards his son. "ANDREW? What is wrong?" he asked concern written all over his face. Before anything else was said Andrew ran up slicing him across the chest. Nicole's father collapsed the concern still visable in his now dull eyes. Nicole's mom dropped the bowl she was holding as it shattered into a million peices. "Andrew what have you done!" she shreiked. He did the same to her except she was sliced across the throat. Nicole watched as the scene ripped at her heart as she collapsed. She couldn't take anymore and the memory changed again. This time to her on her way back.

Anna watched, eyes wide, as the memory played on. Her wing stretched out Nicole protectively as Andrew came, sheltering her as if the memory version of him might come and try and take her, but he didn't. It was just a memory. Then things began to change, and Anna tried to understand the world that blurred before her eyes.

The vision of Nicole ran down the hill seeing the destruction of her home. "MOTHER!!! FATHER!!!" she gasped. She couldn't take it she collapsed to the floor taking in the site of thier bleeding bodies. That's when the door creeped open agian. Andrew walked in towards his sister and stood over her just starring. "Andrew what happened?!" Nicole cried at him. Her question was not answered as she was flung across the room. She hit the side of her home and groaned. "Andrew?" she muttered. Andrew walked over and wacked her with the sword. The vison went black.

Anna decided that that was enough, and pulled herself and Nicole from the mirror memory. They were back home, sitting on the couch still, the mirror between Annabelle's paws. "Nicole?" she questioned, wondering if the girl was alright. She could smell the sorrow. "Are you okay?"
