He looked back to the child and the horizon beyond it. With a smile he looked back to the girl who kneeled before him. "As you wish." He said and his fingers separated. The smooth fabric left his hand and the child began to fall. But as it fell his grip on his sword only tightened and he took hold of Susan, holding her tightly by the back of her neck and kicking Caspian's cast to drive him away.

Caspian watched in horror as the cloth that held Galen left the devil's fingertips, the thread of which his life was held. He groaned sharply in agony as the boot met his wrist, but would not let go. There was no greater pain in the world than being separated from his wife, especially after watching his baby fall. Caspian could afford to risk never using his hand again. But to lose Susan... he shuddered and wept. His son had only had a few short hours of life, and now, if his love went with Lamont, she would surely be tortured. "NO!" he howled, striking out at his cousin. "THAT WAS MY SON! THIS IS MY WIFE!" Now that Galen was agonizingly gone, Caspian whipped the dagger through the air towards the boy. It did not fly towards the window. It was not met by any obstacle other than Lamont. Just inches away...

Unfortuanately for Lamont, it was Anna who had heard his whistle, too. She looked up from her resting place on the grass and flew to the Castle, curiously. Golden eyes grew wide in horror as she watched the newest throne member being dangled by the window. She wouldn't make herself known. She wasn't stupid. Her eyes simply focused... and then... there. The baby was falling. She swooped down, grasping him tightly and safely in her paws and talons, holding him close to her body. She did not call out to the King and Queen. Their mournful moments would not last long. She would return the baby when all of this was over, but for now it was her duty to keep him safe. The gryphon flew unnoticed by any of them, Caspian, Lamont or Susan, into the shadows of the Castle. It was easy to see here, with a gryphon's eyes anyway. It was safe. No harm would come to Prince Galen. Anna would laugh to see someone try. The beast wouldn't mind a good fight right now, even with the baby. It was an easy task for her to keep the both of them safe, and emerge victorious from whatever battle crossed her path. But still, she prayed there was no battle. The little baby Prince had seen enough blood and danger for a month, just in the few short hours of his life.

The powerful dragon roared as the smaller beast reached his target first. With a change in his direction he flew almost straight up, and then folding his wings dove for the griffon. Less than ten feet above the lion-bird he spit a small stream of fire and sretched his claws to her. An instant later his body collided with the other's, his claws sinking ito his back.

Anna turned her head and shot a flame against his, the two rivers of fire colliding in the air, each pressing onward towards the other's mouth. She dove downward to avoid his claws, but was a bit too slow due to how suprisingly he had appeared. She yelped as feathers were torn from her skin, along with some of the skin itself. Needless to say though, it was just a scratch. Annabelle swooped and swerved, far above the agility of the dragon, zigzagging through the air, up and down, side to side, and then she thrust forward, swift as an arrow and as invisible as a shadow, towards the ground. She would not land as she glided along the grass, the green blades just brushing her claws. The babe lay safely beneath her in her paws and talons, snuggling against her warmth and closing his eyes. Anna would keep him safe. She smiled and without turning her head, "Is that the best you've got, lousy dragon?" she sneered, flying faster.

"NO!" She screamed as he carried out her wish. Hpw could she have been so careless with her words, she shouldv'e known what he was going to do. She gripped Caspian's unbroken wrist tightly for comfort and she cried. Her hands went to Lamont's, to struggle, as he gripped her, but gave up the fight moments later and her body fell limp. She had lost her son, her only son, without outting up a fight to protect him. Lamont had been right: she was a pathetic excuse for a mother. Everytime she fought things only became worse, everything she touched was cursed to live miserably or, in Lucy's case, not live at all. It was only when she saw Caspian's daggers again did she dare speak though her voice shook and heaved with her sobs. "Don't bother," she told him, "I know you love me, but for Nairnia's sake, if not for my own, let me go. I am of no use to you, you'd be better off if I were never here." At last you understand truth. It told her, Perhaps you should listen to me more when I send you warning's of your children's deaths. Now you have lost your son, just as I showed you, and you did not protect him. The fault is yours.

"No!" he said, pulling back on her as hard as he could, this time straight from Lamont's arms. "Leave us be." Caspian said to Lamont, his voice barely a whisper. "You've already taken the life of our son. You've won. Just go now." He still wasn't sure if the dagger had struck him or not. How could it not have? But Caspian didn't care right now. He brought Susan away from the boy and hugged her. Their son was dead, and there was nothing that anyone could do. The body of the maid lay by their feet, and Caspian cried harder. Another life was taken at his fault. He held his wife close to him, and then reached for her arrows. "If you don't shoot him I will." he said, not even looking in Lamont's direction.

"Caspian, please," She whispered as he held her. The thought of him shooting the boy was one that filled her heart with joy,but not one she saw happening. In the time she had known him she had never seen him use a bow before. Even if it did hit their target, their luck would continue it's loss streak, and he would not die, only pull out the arrow and fight again. "Please, just let me go. You are all I have now and I won't let you be hurt. If there is a way to stop this then I will take it. I am sorry." She touched his face and kissed him gently as fresh tears fell knowing she would never feel his touch again once she had left. She held it for a moment wanting their last kiss together to last.

"I won't let you go." he said, and kissed her. He didn't want her to leave. She was his only hope in the world now. Caspian wouldn't break the kiss, and only prayed that he could better tell her though this kiss than he could in words that he wasn't going to leave her side. 'Till Death do we part. For better, for worse. For richer, for poorer. In sickness, and in health... he prayed that these messages would somehow transfer from him to her. That she would somehow pick up on what he was feeling. Caspian never broke a promise...

To say he felt good hearing these words was an understatement. Victory would be his, if it wasn't already. And nothing could stop him from completing his plan and taking his place on the throne. The lover's determination to be with each other slowed him down, he should've taken the master's warning much more literally than he did. But with his trick she was breaking and the end of this war would not be far with him as victor. It was a shame that he had to love so strongly that he would give his everything for her. If not for the weakness in his heart that was love he would stand no chance at taking his throne. Lamont had destroyed all means of loving long ago before his coming here, he would not fall subject to the same weakness. The dagger struck, piercing his chest and drawing blood. He groaned in pain, but was quick to pull it out and hold it tight as if to use it for his own purposes. He watched, but after a few moments became disgusted before steping foward and seperating them, pulling her back by her hair.

"Oh no you don't!" Caspian shouted, driving his foot where is counts into his cousin. "That's my wife!" He pulled her back from the devil. "You can't have her!" Warriors came a-marching into the room now, maybe about fifteen of them. They sprang upon the only son of the dead evil King, ready to do anything they had to to save the throne from his hands.

A brief moment of pain passed through her mind as she was dragged back from him. There would be no more nights of peace where she could curl against his chest and he would know what she wanted and wrap his arms around her shoulders and kiss the skin of her neck. Never again would she wake up in the mornings, freed at last from some nightmare, to see him sleeping peacefuly beside her as if there was nothing to fear in the dark world they had been thrown into. She wanted so desperately to run back to him again, no matter what pain it caused her, but thought better of it. I't better this way, you are a small price to pay for his life. She looked away and closed her eyes too ashamed to see sadness in them again. "I'm sorry."

"Fool," He said calmly as the soldiers came. What did he expect would happen? When they were near enough to strike he only pulled his queen in front of him as his back pressed against the wall. One arm wrapped around her chest constricting her arms, while the other pressed his sword to her throat, "You have already lost. Why do you bother making things worse for yourself? Though I would not enjoy it as well if you truly want her dead as badly as you make it seem I will kill her now."

Caspian ran infront of the soldiers. "DON'T SHOOT!" he yelled, holding his hands high. "HOLD YOUR FIRE!" They all watched their Queen in grief. What could be done now? Caspian stepped forward slowly towards Lamont and his wife, not a threat in his body. "Let me kiss her one last time." he begged, tears streaming from his eyes. He didn't want to see her dead. Caspian would rescue her. He would ride upon the backs of horses and gryphons, just to save her. And he would die. He would die to save her. He would be her Vidar. "Please." he pleaded. "If not just to be kind for once, do it for your own pleasure. Watch me suffer."

watch you suffer. He liked the offer, it was one he could take pleasure in just as he said. He thought over it for a moment never letting Susan leave his grip. He knew that to do so was to practically ask for his death from the soldiers that surrounded him. "Didn't you already have your kiss?" He asked and paused only for a moment. "Very well, take your kiss, but she dose not leave my arms. One wrong move and I will not hesitate." He knew there was no reason to give the threat. Caspian had known he killed his mother, he had seen him drop his son. Why would the life of the queen mean any more to him?
